Abstract

Black shades are produced on cellulose acetate material by absorption of one or more of the bases, a -naphthylamine, benzidine, tolidine, or p-p1-diaminodiphenylamine, the base being used wholly or partly in the free state, diazotizing, and developing with b -oxynaphthoic acid or resorcin. The solutions of the free bases may be obtained by neutralizing solutions of their salts by soda &c., or the free bases may be dissolved in spirit and poured into water, or they may be dispersed with Turkey-red oil or the like and added to water. Specifications 24284/07, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], 193,646, 204,179, and 219,349 are referred to. The Provisional Specification is not confined to the above-mentioned bases and developers, and mentions dianisidine as a suitable base.
