Abstract

224,098. Boothroyd, H. Nov. 24, 1923. Drilling.-A two-speed gear adapted for a hand bench drilling-machine comprises a driving flywheel a which is moved bodily to an eccentric position with respect to its driven spindle d in changing from normal to high-speed drive. A toothed pinion c fast on the spindle d carries clutch dogs g, which in the normal-speed position shown engage a dog projection f upon the face of the wheel a. The wheel a is secured to a stud e which is supported in a boring in the end of the spindle, d. To change speed, the wheel a and stud e are withdrawn bodily, and the stud is fitted into a hole i in the machine frame j. An internally-toothed wheel b upon the face of the wheel a is thus meshed with the pinion c, which can thus be driven faster.
