Abstract
A roof or loft leak collector comprises an elongate rectangular tray having a floor (1), walls (2, 3 and 4) and lips (5, 6 and 7) extending from the walls. Recesses (8) are provided in the walls (2) and lips (5) for receiving ends of fractured pipes. Channels (9) are provided in the floor (1) leading to a collecting recess (11) from where water can be drained off. Formations (12) in the floor (1) and the walls (2) are provided to locate an absorbent mat clear of the recess (11). <IMAGE>
Description
Roof or Loft Leak Dispenser Descrintion This invention relates to a roof or loft leak dispenser.
The object of the invention is to provide a means for immediately effecting temporary maintenance to a leaking roof or loft pending a permanent repair.
According to the invention there is provided a roof or loft leak dispenser comprising an elongate rectangular tray having lips extending outwardly from and along its walls, a hose connection at one end of the tray, and means to locate an absorbent mat on the base of the tray.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig 1 is a plan view of a roof or loft leak dispenser according to the invention;
Fig 2 is a side view of the dispenser in Fig 1;
Fig 3 is a view from one end of the dispenser; and
Fig 4 is a view from the opposite end of the dispenser.
In the drawing, a roof leak dispenser comprises an elongate rectangular tray having a floor 1, longitudinal walls 2 at the sides, and transverse walls 3 and 4 at the ends. Lips 5 extend outwardly from and along the walls 2, a lip 6 extends outwardly from and along the wall 3, and a lip 7 extends outwardly from and along the wall 4. The lips 5, 6 and 7 extend about the periphery of the walls 2, 3 and 4 and the lip 6 is deeper than the lips 5 and 7 to form a flexible flap for a purpose to be described hereinafter.
Recesses 8 are formed in the lips 5 and the walls 2. The floor 1 slopes downwards from the wall 3 to the wall 4 relative to the lips 5 and has formed therein elongate channels 9. The floors of the channels 9 are parallel with the lips 5 so that the channels become shallower as they approach the wall 4 where a drainage opening 10 is provided leading from a collecting recess 11 in the floor 1 where the channels 9 meet. In addition, formations 12 are provided in the walls 2 and floor 1 for locating an absorbent mat (not shown) between the formations 12 and wall 3 and clear of the recess 11. The mat is provided to prevent splashing from drops of water leaking through the roof. A hose (not shown) is connected to the opening 10 and leads either into a gutter or, if the gutter is set too high, to an overflow.
The tray can also be placed with the channels 9 resting on the joists but with the recess 11 clear of joists.
The flexible lip 6 can be bent to bear against sarking or an interior gable wall in order to lead water, which is running along the sarking or gable wall, into the tray.
The recesses 8 are provided to receive the ends of fractured pipes so that water from a fractured pipe eg in a loft can be led into the tray.
The tray may be formed from A.B.S.
Claims (6)
1. A roof or loft leak dispenser comprising an elongate rectangular tray having lips extending outwardly from and along its walls, a hose connection at one end of the tray, and means to locate an absorbent mat on the base of the tray.
2. A dispenser according to claim 1, wherein the lip extending from the wall at the other end of the tray is deeper than the remaining lips and is flexible.
3. A dispenser according to claims 1 or 2, wherein the floor of the tray slopes downwardly towards the one end of the tray relative to the lips extending from the longitudinal walls of the tray.
4. A dispenser according to claim 3, wherein the floor of the tray has channels formed therein, the floors of the channels being parallel with the lips extending from the longitudinal walls of the tray.
5. A dispenser according to any preceding claim, wherein recesses are formed in the longitudinal walls of the tray and the lips extending therefrom.
6. A roof or loft leak dispenser substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
