Abstract

Frames; spring devices.-A frame for bicycles comprises, in combination, a main rigid openangle portion, consisting of a pair of sheet-metal channel-section members 1 connected together face to face and shaped to provide two rectilinear and inclined parts which meet in the vicinity of the crank axle 17 and rigidly connect the head with the rear wheel, and a resilient or resiliently controlled saddle support 4 secured to the main portion between the head and the crank axle. As shown, the saddle support is in the form of a laminated spring which is pivoted to the frame and is fitted with a socket 7 for the saddle pin; it is held against pivotal movement by plates 8 bolted adjustably to the spring and bearing upon the rigid portion of the frame. Pivotal movement of the spring may, however, be prevented by a bolt passing through the main frame portion and through one of a series of holes in a part riveted to the spring below the pivot. Alternatively the support may be a rigid sheet-metal member pivoted to the frame and connected to the upper end of the head by a tension spring; or the tension spring may be replaced by springs disposed between the cycle frame and the support on each side thereof near the pivot.
