Abstract

222,951. Roucka, E. July 10, 1923. Pressure-regulating valves.-A device for regulating fluid flow or liquid levels comprises apparatus sensitive to the variations of flow or level and adapted to adjust a valve or gate from a pipe or tank. As shown in Fig. 1, the fluid flows through a pipe 2 which has a flow resistance device 4 connected to the piston 8 of a servomotor 10. The pipe 2 is connected at opposite sides of the valve 4 to opposite sides of a diaphragm 16 which controls the position of a valve piston 22. The piston 22 controls the supply of fluid to and from the servomotor 10. When the flow of fluid through the pipe 2 is normal, the piston 22 is in its neutral position and fluid is cut off from the servomotor. When a variation in flow occurs, the consequent differences of pressure on each side of the valve 4 moves the diaphragm 16 which in turn moves the piston 22 to admit fluid to one side or the other of the servomotor piston 8. The piston 8 is thus moved and the flow resistance device 4 varies the flow of fluid through the pipe 2 to restore the apparatus to a balanced condition. Instead of the valve 4, a butterfly valve mav be employed. Fig. 2 shows apparatus for regulating the velocity of flow of a liquid from a container 80. The flow of liquid from the container 80 is controlled by a gate 100 which is actuated by a servomotor 94. The gate 100 is actuated to maintain the liquid level constant in accordance with the rise or fall of the liquid level, the circuit of the servomotor 94 being controlled by a float 86 carrying a contact 90 which operates with fixed contacts 92. Specification 207,664, [Class 69 (i), Hydraulic apparatus &c.], is referred to.
