Abstract

A length of material passes through an aperture in the wheel rim of a vehicle, then along the side wall of the tyre, across the tread surface, along the other wall of the tyre and is joined to form a loop around the wheel/tyre assembly. The material may pass once through the rim or more than once through different holes in the wheel rim, forming more than one loop around the wheel/tyre assembly. Each end of the material may be secured to the wheel/tyre assembly by passing each end through an aperture in the wheel rim and affixing each end thereto. <IMAGE>

Description

VEHICLE TRACTION IMPROVER.
This invention relates to a vehicle traction improver. It is a device which, when fitted to a vehicle wheel/tyre. improves grip and traction in adverse conditions such as snow. und etc.
Currently available commercially are devices clamped around the outside of the tyre with lemgths of material passing over the tread surface of the tyre- for example. chains or plastic 'spider clamp'. All existing devices clamp around the outside of the theel/tyre asmembly.
According to the present invention, rather than affixing material to the tyre by wrapping or grippimg around the outside of the whcel/tyre assombly, material is affixed to the wheel/tyre by passing one end of the material through a hole in the wheel ria. (Such a hole exists in virtually all wheel rims currently used ; the removal of a wheel trim nay be mecessary.) Once passed throughahole in the wheel rim, the length of material then passes along one of the walls of the tyre, then across the troad surface of the tyre, then along the other wall of the tyre. The two ends of the material are positvely joimed to form a loop, now securely affixed to the wheel/tyre assembly.
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the invention.
The means of joining the two ends of the invention are not herein specified - this could be achieved by a simple knot, or by a olip or catch or by any other snitahle means.
Also, the location of the actual joint of theinvention is not specified - this could be at any location on the wheel/ tyre assembly.

Claims (3)

  1. VEHICLE TRACTION IMPROVER
CLAIMS 1. A vehicle traction improver, being a piece of material pagsing through an aperture in the wheel rim, along one of the walls of the tyre, across the tread surface, along the other wall of the tyre, to form a loop around and through the wheel/tyre assembly.
  2. 2. A vehicle traction improver, as olaimed in claim l, but by allowing a continuous piece of material to pass through more than one aperture in the wheel rim, the material is thereby allowed to pass across the tread surface more than once, that is to say, the continuous piece of material is looped round and aroumd the wheel/tyre assembly, each time passing through a different aperture in the wheel rim. The beginning and end of the material are then joined by aeans not herein specified to prevent the material becoming detatched.
  3. 3. A vehicle traction improver as in claims 1 and 2, whereby a loop (as in olaim 1) or loops (as in claim 2) are formed around the wheel/tyre assembly, but rather than securing the invention to the whoel/tyre assembly by joining the two ends together, the invention is affixed to the wheel/tyre assembly by affixing each end of the invention to the wheel rim aperture.
Thus, a clip or clasp at one end of the invention is fitted just through a wheel rim aperture. The length of material of the inventionthen passes around the wheel/tyre one or more timesi the other end of the material also has a clip or clasp which passes just through a wheel rim aperture, locating onto the edge of this aperture.
4,A vehicle traction improver, substantially as described herein.
