Abstract

A motorcycle luggage carrier has a body which resembles a pair of panniers joined by a saddle piece and the lid forms a flat platform on which external loads may be mounted. Outsize loads may also be carried between the lid and the body, these being joined not by a hinge, but by bungee cords only. The box is also mounted by bungee cords, and the saddle piece is moulded to fit the seat of a particular type of motorcycle. <IMAGE>

MOTORCYCLE LUGGAGE CARRIER TECHNICAL FIELD Motorcycle accessories.
Joints and fasteners.
BACKGROUND Luc~ase carriers cr. motorcycles consist of combinations of top boxes and panniers. These are generally difficult to mount, offer limited accommodation, and the top box also causes handling instability due to its great distance from the centre of gravity of the machine.
The present invention has been designed with the primary objective of providing a low cost container for use by despatch riders which gives the maximum protection to the large flat documents often used in the graphic art industry.
A one piece moulding embodying panniers joined by a saddle piece-was chosen and this can house flat packages up to 320mm x 600mm (13" x 24").
Larger packages are held between the lid and the body of the pannier and these can be of any size within the elastic limits of the securing bungees (roughly OO% strain).

Claims (7)

1. A pair of panniers joined by a ridge or saddle the lid of which forms a flat platform.
2. A pair of panniers as in 1 which is mounted on the pillion seat or occupies the space normally reserved for the pillion.
3. A motorcycle luggage carrier moulded to fit the pillion seat of a particular model of motorcycle.
4. A pair of panniers as in 1 mlltd without metal stays or brackets but by bungee cords only.
5. A motorcycle luggage carrier designed to hold outsize items between the lid and body as in figure 2.
6. A motorcycle luggage carrier as in 5 whose lid is held to the body by bungee or other cords only.
7. A motorcycle luggage carrier as in 6 where the lid/body cords also serve to keep the outsize load in position as shown in figure 2.
