Abstract

A shut-off valve for use at sub-sea levels is operated by a piston and cylinder via a beam link in response to a signal from sensors, a command from a control room on manual operation by divers. A mechanical lock may hold the valve in its closed position. The valve is provided with a waterproof housing. <IMAGE>

Description

THE COLESPRING ISOLATION VALVE.
PURPOSE. To isolate oil flow at sub-sea levels.
FUNCTION. Valve would be activated by signal from source: A. Singal from sensors.
B. Command from Control Room.
C. Manual operation by divers.
Signal from any of the above parameters would activate air valve allowing air to pass into cylinder. Movement of the piston would be transmitted by the beam link and then to the shut off valve, with subsequent closure of the valve.
Mechanical lock would hold valve in closed position.
Waterproof housing would be required for wellhead units.
Variations for multiple pipe control and positioning of pressure module could be developed.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIM
    OIL SUPPLY SHUT-OFF VALVE The oil supply shut-off valve is for installation above or below water level.
    It's function is to give automatic shut-off of oil supply to platform or site when any of the following parameters are exceeded or interrupted.: (a) Loss of power supply.
    (b) High temperatures.
    (c) High rate of low.
    (d) Gas sensors.
    Manual operation for servicing or control by maintainance staff or divers.
    The operating medium would be dry compressed air or dry gas and would be supplied on demand from a separate four compartment module. Any one compartment to have the capacity to initiate valve operation.
    The valve and control box would have ability to supply fire extinguishing action procedures at fire source on receiving signal from heat sensor.
    Would each be separate units with facility for change of units with minimum interruption of supply.
