Description

A GOLFE4'S AID This invention relates to a golfer's aid, and more particularly to a multipurpose device intended to be carried at all times by a golfer whilst playing or practising golf.
While playing a round of golf, a well prepared golfer will carry a variety of implements such as tees, ball markers, a pencil for scoring, a pitch mark repairing device and so on, and all too often the golfer loses these implements or is seen to be fumbling for them in his pockets thereby slowing down the pace of the game. Clearly this is very frustrating for the golfer, his playing partners and other players on the course who are held up by this unnecessary waste of time.
Furthermore, it is important that the grooves on the golfer's clubheads are as clean as possible at all times for him to realise his full potential, because the control achieved from optimum backspin on a golf shot cannot usually be attained if the grooves are soiled. This is especially important with the new so-called 'box' grooves which are very popular nowadays. A dedicated golfer will often clean the grooves on his clubs after each round he plays, but that does not prevent the grooves becoming soiled during a round. The extra backspin produced by having perfectly clean grooves at all times could mean the difference between winning and losing a tournament. At present there is no convenient device available to the golfer- to ensure that the grooves on his clubs are sufficiently soil free at all times.
It is intended that the present invention should provide a convenient multipurpose golfing aid which overcomes or reduces the above disadvantages.
According to the present invention there is provided a device comprising a body section having at least one integral elongate arm intended for repairing turf, and cleaning means attached thereto for removing soil from a golfer's equipment.
Preferably the device has two elongate arms, each having a curve at the distal end thereof.
The cleaning means preferably comprises a small brush head, similar in construction to a tooth brush head.
Preferably the cleaning means has an intergral writing implement and is rotatable so as to engage and disengage the writing means.
The writing means is preferably a pencil lead although it will be appreciated that other writing means, such as ink, could be utilized without detracting from the ambit of the invention.
Preferably the device includes a detachable golf ball marker which takes the form of a circular disc with an integral extending member at the centre thereof which locates in a hole in the body section of the device.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described further, by way of example only, with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the device; and Figure 3 is an exploded view showing the constituent parts of the device.
A golfer's aid, which will be hereinafter referred to as a device 10, comprises a body section 12 which is constructed from a metallic material. It will be appreciated, however, that other suitable materials possessing the necessary strength to manipulate turf on a golf green, such as hardened plastics materials, could be used without detracting from the scope of the invention. The body section 12 has two integral elongate arms 14 which are inserted into the turf of a golf green to repair pitch marks made by the golf ball. Each elongate arm is curved at its end, as can be clearly seen in figures 1 and 3 of the drawings, because it has been found in extensive trials among golfers that this design facilitates the repairing of a pitch mark.
The body section 12 has a cleaning device 16 attached thereto by means of a hollow type fastening rivet 20. The cleaning device 16 is typically a small brush head of similar design to a tooth brush head but the bristles are preferably stiffer to facilitate cleaning of golf equipment, primarily the grooves on clubheads. The cleaning device 16 has a writing implement 18 attached thereto which would usually be a pencil lead and is preferably replaceable so that it can be replaced when blunt.
The brushhead 16 is rotatable about rivet 20 so as to engage and disengage writing implement 18. This feature ensures that the pencil lead does not 'stab' the golfer or break off when not in use. The internal diameter of the hollow rivet 20 is of such a size as to accept and firmly hold the stem of a conventional golf ball marker 22, but said marker can be easily extracted for use when required. Alternatively the rivet 20 or the marker 22 could be magnetized to create the same effect.
A device according to the present invention provided a convenient and inexpensive tool for the golfer which increases the enjoyment of the game.
