Abstract

A heel cover (3) comprises a sleeve of resilient material, that fits over the heel to protect it, which is stretchable at least at one end. Also at one end is a reinforcement, preferably in the form of a wire loop (6). A pattern or design may be applied to or form part of the surface of the cover. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: A heel cover DESCRIPTION This invention concerns a heel cover.
A heel of usual shape, especially of the type for a woman's shoe, is usually constructed of a material onto which a piece of leather is rolled and attached, and a bottom-leather which is stuck onto the bottom of the heel.
While walking on a flat road, the bottom-leather takes most of the contact, but on a sandy or stony road, the heel-leather may be affected. The heel-leather is easily peeled, damaged and loses its beauty because of our weight on it. Unfortunately, replacement of the heel-leather is impossible due to the way in which it is applied to the shoe. Thus, damage to a heel, only one part of a shoe, can result in the shoe being unusable.
An object of this invention is to provide a means for reducing the risk of the aforementioned problem.
Another object of the invention is to provide an accessory for shoes.
According to the invention there is provided a heel cover comprising a sleeve of resilient material being stretchable at least at one end.
The invention will now be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a shoe fitted with a heel cover; Figure 2 shows a heel cover; and Figure 3 is a section through a heel and cover.
Referring to the drawings, a ladies shoe 1 has a heel 2 which is formed conventionally to be wider at the top than at the bottom. A heel cover 3 comprises a sleeve of a resilient material, such as synthetic resin or rubber. The heel cover illustrated has one flat face 4 and a curved face 5 to match the sectional shape of the heel 2.
Preferably at least an upper part of the heel cover is expandable and the heel cover 3 is preferably formed to be slightlv smaller in section than the heel so that on fitting to the heel it grips the heel by its resilience. Alternative shapes of heel cover are also possible to suit different shapes of shoe heel. For example, the heel cover may be of square or circular section and may be of constant cross-sectional area or of varying area.
The heel cover 3 may be transparent or opaque and may be plain or patterned. The pattern may be applied to the surface of the cover or formed therein. If the heel cover is transparent separate design/pattern sheets may be inserted between the cover and the heel of a shoe.
The heel cover 3 may be reinforced by means of a wire 6 incorporated at the lower end of the heel cover.
Wire reinforcement may not be necessary if the heel cover is made of a suitable thickness.
In use, a heel is inserted into the cover by pushing the heel into the cover, the resilience of the cover allowing it to stretch and then grip the heel.
Through this operation, the heel cover protects the heel from damage by sand and stones and prolongs the useful life of the shoes. If reinforcement is added to the bottom of the heel cover, its effect may be greater. The heel cover can be light and small enough to put in your pocket or bag. It is handy to carry and put on or off in need. Decorative use of the heel cover is possible by having various designs thereon.
The cover is simple in structure, easy to manufacture and cheap but provides a very useful practical effect.
The heel cover may also be used as a space in which to put accessories for shoes.
