Abstract

A heel protecting device comprises a stainless steel sleeve 1 shaped to correspond to the shape of the heel portion of high heeled shoes. A slit 4 at the rear of the sleeve 1 provides the sleeve 1 with a small amount of adjustment. A pair of lugs 5 extend upwardly at the rear of the sleeve 1. In use the sleeve 1 is a push fit over the heel of the shoes. The slit 4 allows the sleeve 1 to expand slightly so that it is retained in position by the resilience of the material from which it is made. The sleeve 1 provides the heel 2 with protection against damage which might be sustained in general use. If the sleeve 1 itself becomes damaged it is a simple matter to replace it with a new sleeve 1 thus restoring the appearance of the shoe. <IMAGE>

Description

"Heel Protection Device" This invention relates to a heel protecting device especially but not exclusively for use on thigh heeled ladies shoes.
Uigh heeled shoes have a thin tall heel piece which can in use auickly become scratched and damaged. Although this damage is unlikely seriously to weaken the strength of the heel it can be unsightly allowing the shoes to take on a used appearance.
According to the present invention there is provided a heel protecting device comprising a sleeve for fitment over the heel of a shoe.
The sleeve may have inwardly directed ribs to clip over the base of the heel to retain the sleeve in position.
Preferably the sleeve has a longitudinal slit and is resilient such that the sleeve is resiliently biased on fitment over the heel to retain the sleeve thereon.
Preferably also the sleeve has upwardly extending lugs for supporting a heel covering.
Preferably also the sleeve is of metal or plastics material.
Embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a side view of a heel protecting device in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a rear view of the heel protecting device of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a side view of the heel protecting device of Fia. 1 in position on the heel of a shoe.
Referring to the drawings, a heel protecting device in accordance with the present invention comprises a stainless steel sleeve 1 shaped to correspond to the shape of the heel portion 2 of high heeled shoes 3. A slit 4 at the rear of the sleeve 1 provides the sleeve 1 with a small amount of adjustment. A pair of lugs 5 extend upwardly at the rear of the sleeve 1.
In use the sleeve 1 is a push fit over the heel 2 of the shoes 3. The slit 4 allows the sleeve 1 to expand slightly so that it is retained in position by the resilience of the material from which it is made.
The sleeve 1 provides the heel 2 with protection against damage which might be sustained in general use. If the sleeve 1 itself becomes damaged it is a simple matter to replace it with a new sleeve 1 thus restoring the appearance of the shoe 3.
The upwardly extending lugs 5 provide a support for leather or other material which is used for appearance and may be omitted if desired.
The heel protecting device may be supplied as an accessory or may be supplied with a new pair of shoes.
The sleeve 1 may itself be produced in a number of different colours or finishes thus providing scope for faltering the appearance of a pair of shoes in accordance with the desires of the wearer.
The device can be produced in various sizes to suit different types of shoes and different heel heights and various modifications and improvements may be made without departina from the scope of the invention. For example various alternative materials may be used instead of stainless steel such as other metals and plastics materials.
It is also envisaged that the sleeve 1 could be produced with inwardly extending ribs which would allow it to snap fit over the base of the a heel 2 for more positive location if required.
