Abstract

A security window has a solid outer frame with an angled lip with an aluminium bar 2 rebated behind it. A u-shaped rubber gasket 3, surrounds the outer edge of the double-glazed unit 5 which is glazed internally by one internal bead 4. <IMAGE>

Description

SECURITY ID.
This invention relates to a new security window.
The traditional timber window frame has always had the same constructed features, which has meant that glazing has been installed from the outside, using glazing pins & putty or bead.
This means that replacing the glass is, and always has been a time- consuming procedure.
Another expense and inconvenience which always occurs is that staging and ladders have to be used to access windows at a higher level. This has also become a time- eonsurl,g factor to the installer.
A point that neeas to be stressed is that, In todays society, burglary seems to be on the increase, and this new window reduces the risk of illegal entry.
The most essential point of this new type of frame is that, looking from the outside, it has a solid wooden construction, giving it an internal rebate as shown on the diagram. An aluminium bar is inserted throughout the lip of the frame and rebated into it. This type of frame enables it to be glazed from the inside.
A specific embodiment of the window will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure I shows in perspective, the solid constructed frame.
Figure 2 shows the separate sections, which when assembled, complete the unit.
Figures 3 & 4 show the separate sections of rebated timber lengths which go to make up the complete frame.
Refferring to the drawings this window consists of a solid hardwood frame. The main bods of the outer frame I shows the angled li which gives a smart, secure arre which ensures that the glass cannot be removed externally. A second security precaution has been devised by the means of an aluminium bar 2 which has been rebated behind the outer lip. his bar 2 is situated in this position throughout the entire frame and sash openers as shown in Fig 4 no II. Another point of this new type of frame is that it gives a simple glazing method, thus giving an extremely quick fitting time for the installer.
The double - glazed unit 5 as shown in Fig I, has a u - shaped rubber gasket, sealed around the perimeter, 3 Fig I. This in turn is now positioned into the main frame, where, situated in the rebate is an arch - shaped rubber seal that is already fixed to the frame I5 Fig I. This is then secured by the internal bead 4 Fig I & 2 which seals up the unit neatly and securely. This shows that when a unit is damaged, replacing is as simple as removing the internal beads and the damaged unit, and replacing a new one, because there are no hardened sealants to remove. This time-saving technique saves the homeowner having the discomfort of an open, exposed window while repairs are being carried out.
