Abstract
Carpets are made up by a rubber layer and fiber longer in a process comprising the stages of: superposing on a rubber web, a piece of previously woven synthetic or natural fibre, trimmed to the shape of the rubber web; affixing the piece of fiber to the rubber web by stitching, and when desired, hot-pressing the rubber web and fiber piece. <IMAGE>
Description
CARPET AND MAT MANUFACTURE
The present invention relates to a manufacturing process for carpets and mats in general and, more particularly, to a manufacturing process for carpets made up by a rubber and synthetic or natural fiber composition.
Known rubber carpets and synthetic or natural fiber carpets are obtained, respectively by stamping and weaving processes.
The bonding between such materials has so far been attained by gluing or hot-pressing procedures.
However, carpets thus obtained exhibit the inconvenience of being poorly resistant to weather, that is, to excessive heat and humidity, which, in time, causes the rubber and fiber portions to separate from one another.
The present invention provides a process for the production of a carpet or mat comprising attaching a textile layer by stitching to a rubber backing layer.
The process may optionally include bonding the textile and rubber layers together. The textile layer may be attached to a web of the rubber backing layer or to a piece of rubber backing material the size and shape of the desired formed mat or carpet.
The invention includes, a carpet or mat comprising a textile layer stitched to a rubber backing layer.
An objective of the preferred practice of the present invention is to provide a manufacturing process for carpets in general whereby a composite, weather-resisting carpet may be manufactured.
This and other objectives of the present invention are attained through a manufacturing process for carpets in general and, more particularly, carpets made up by a rubber and fiber composition, comprising the stages of: feeding a composition bench with a previously stamped rubber web; superposing, on the said rubber web, a peice of previously weaved synthetic or natural fiber, trimmed to the shape of the rubber web; affixing the pieces of fiber to the rubber web by stitching; when desired, hot-pressing the rubber web and fibre piece assembly, forming bas-relief ornamental fillets on the upper surface of the piece of synthetic or natural fibre.
This process of obtaining dual-material carpets provides a weather-resisting item or product, which may be exposed to the elements or washed without losing its basic and original characteristics.
As a nonlimiting example, a typical carpet that may be obtained by the aforementioned process will be described with reference to the single figure of the accompanying drawing which shows the carpet in plan view.
According to this illustration, the carpet comprises a previously stamped rubber web 1, to which, by means of stitch lines 2, a piece of synthetic fibre 3, provided with bas-relief ornamental fillets 4, obtained by pyrography, is upperly affixed.
Claims (7)
1. A process for the production of a carpet or mat comprising attaching a textile layer by stitching to a rubber backing layer.
2. A process as claimed in Claim 1, further including bonding the textile and rubber layers together.
3. A process as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the textile layer is attached to a web of the rubber-backing layer.
4. A process for the production of a carpet or mat, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
5. A carpet or mat comprising a textile layer stitched to a rubber backing layer.
6. A carpet produced by a process as claimed in any one of Claims 1 to 4.
7. A manufacturing process for carpets in general and, more particularly, carpets made up by a rubber and fibre composition, characterised in that it comprises the stages of: feeding a composition bench with a previously stamped rubber web; superposing, on the said rubber web, a piece of previously weaved synthetic or natural fibre, trimmed to the shape of the rubber web; affixing the piece of fiber to the rubber web by stitching; when desired, hot-pressing the rubber web and fiber piece assembly, forming bas-relief ornamental fillets on the upper surface of the piece of synthetic or natural fibre.
