Abstract
An electrified curtain livestock control gate which has electrically conductive elements of the curtain that form a stock proof barrier, these elements with a means of electrifying them being insulated (2) from the rest of the gate. This curtain is supported by means of a beam which has means 6 hinging it from the gate post, to open either horizontally or vertically see Fig 3, with a means of securing the gate in either open or closed positions and with insulated handles 7 to open and close the gate. <IMAGE>
Description
ELECTRIFIED CURTAIN LIVESTOCK CONTROL GATE
This invention relates to a livestock control gate in the fori of an electrified fringed curtain.
Livestock gates that can be driven through are not a new idea but mechanically opperated ones require a considerable effort to open and close them which in turn either require a g > eaQ electrical effort ie. a mains electricity supply or a great mechanical effort to be imparted by the vehicle want Lag to pass through it, which often damages the vehicle and in both cases require considerable maintenence. There is also @ form of barrier which consists of horizontal spring loaded electrically conductive rods which are electrified. However these are easily broken and scratch the paintwork of the cars that pass through them, by virtue of the relitively heavy springing necessary for them to return to their normal positions. Also being designed for cow control, they are not 'ow enough to stop sheep or goats and are easily jumped over by horses and ponies.
According to the present invention, there is provided a livestock control gate, xhich comprises of an electrifica fringed curtain, including a means of electrifying the vertical electrically conductive elements o the curtain,a means of supporting the curtain, that may be opened or closed accross the gateway.
A specific embodiment of this invention will now be described by Vay of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure I shows in perspective, the gate sited in a fence line; igure 2 illustrates the gate opening horizontally; and
Figure 3 shows the gate opening vertically.
Referring' to the drawing the gate comprises of a 6ate post 6 with a means of locking the gate both open and closed, a latch post 4, a support beam I which may be hinged to open horizontally as shown in big 2 or vertically as shown in Fig 3.
This beam supports the electrically conductive fringed curtain 3 which is attactched via insulators 2 to it, also at the latch post end of the beam are insulated handle 7 to open and close the gate, There is a means of electrfying 5 the curtain using the ground surface of the gateway as the return of the electrica circuit.
his circuit is only complete should an animal touch or try to pass through the curtain. But the curtain may be driven through by a mechanical vehicle, with the vehicle brushing aside the electricalXy conductive vertical elements of the curtain without the need of switching off the current.
