Abstract

220,488. Lloyd, H., Homer, E. B., and Dilger, A. Sept. 28, 1923. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors.-A resistance inter-valve coupling for a three-valve detector and amplifier comprises a resistance 10 of about 5 megohms in the plate circuit, of the first valve 1 a grid leak 14 of about 20 megohms and a plate resistance 11 of about 3 megohms for the second valve 2 and a grid leak 15 of 10-15 megohms for the third valve 3, which has the telephones 18 or a loud speaker in its plate circuit. The input condenser 17 and the inter-valve condensers 6, 9 are of 0.0003 microfarad capacity. The first valve acts as a detector and amplifier and the other valves as amplifiers only. It is stated that the valves 1, 2 function below the lower bend of their characteristic curves. The high tension battery 12 may be of 60-100 volts, and the grid leaks 14, 15 are connected to the negative side of the filament battery 13. Specification 129,313 is referred to.
