Description

215 1 QIR 7 CS, Labilizing extremely thin packing material Yethod of and
apparatus for st This invention relates to a method and apparatus for stabilizing extremely thin packing materialp wherein a packing material sheet is pulled by pulling rolls from a reely packing material portions are out off by a cutting device and these are supplied to a packaging machine.
Apparatuses for feeding packing materiRl of low intrinsic stiffness by means of rolls and guide devices to a packaging machine are already known, wherein one or more nozzles are disposed inside the guide devices, which nozzles produce air flows in the direction of conveying of the sheet, the flowing air producing, in the guide device, a auction above the air outlet openings, by which a-action the sheet is tightened and stabilized. Such a solution is apparent from DD-PS 47 332. A -C these solutions is that, where special sheets, espe- disadvantage o. cially PP sheets of thickness not exceeding 0.025 mm exe used, reliable conveying of the Dacldng material in the region of -the free forward feed between paper table aud grip-per wheel is not ensured. This leeAs to kinking of such sheets, or the sheets curl up due to the increased static loading as they are fed around the cutting device.
lú Furthermoret solutIons are known, in vhich shrink sheet's run over sheet pulling-off rolls before the packaging station, these rolls being equipped at intervals with annular grooves, into which pipes which can 1 M be supplied with compressed air penetrate. such a solution is apparent from DE-GM 19 34 934. Thess solutions also are accompanied by the drawback that in the region of the free forward feed between paper table ana gripper wheel, kinking of extremely thin sheets does occur.
The objective of the invention is to broaden the field of application of packaEing machines to the processing of extremely thin packing Materials.
The tae'.,c of the invention consists in stabilizing extremely thin packing material in the region of the free feed between paper table and gripper wheel. The task is achieved, in respect of the Process, in that the cross-section of the free end of the packing material sheet is made nonplanar before the packing material portion is cut off. The non-planar croce-section of the free end. of the packing material sheet is formed continuously before cutting-off. The cross-section of the free end of the packing material sheet is preferably brought into a downwardly open, circular are form.
In respect of apparatus, the task is achieved in that, in the region of the cutting device, an air blowing pips is disposed parallel to the cutting 'device above the packing material sheet and an air blowing bar is so disposed below the packing material sheet. The air blowing pipe is mounted pivotal in front of the cutting device above the Packing nateriall sheet. Me air blowin& pipe possesses nozzles orientated onto the packin& material sheet, the spacing of the nozzles being slightly smaller than the width of the sheet, this nozzle spacing being arranged Symmetrically about the centre of the packing material sheet.
On the air blowing bar$ nozzles orientated onto the centre of the packing material sheet are mounted. it is thereby possible to use packaging machines also for the processing of extremely thin packing material and thus to save packing material.
The invention is explained in more detail below by means of an exam.ple of embodiment by reference to a drawing.
A packinE material sheet (P) is drawn off in known manner from a teel, not shown, the cross-section of the free end of the packing material sheet (P) after the cutting device (3) being continuously formed nonplanar before cutting off. The cross-section is preferably brought into a downwardly open circular are form by the action of blowing air.
The apparatus consists of the pulling rolls (1) for pulling and conveying the packing material sheet (P), of the air blowing pipe (2) comprising nozzles (21), which is mounted above the packing material sheet (P) in front of the cutting device (5), and of the air blowing bar (4) comprising nozzles (4')s which -4a mounted beneath the packing material sheet (P) immediately after the cutting device (3). The packing material portion (A) with the already shaped cross-section is again shown in front of the gripper wheel (5).
nie method of functioninE of the apparatus is as followss 7he packing material sheet (P), drawn by the pulling rolls (1) from a reel, not shown, is conducted underneath the air blowing pipe (2) through the cutting device (3) and above the air blowing bar (4).
T Ihe free end of the packing material sheet (P), situated between the cutting device (3) and the gripper wheel (5)y is continuously brought into the downwardly open$ circular arc form after the cutting device (3). This circular arc form is produced by the blowing air, issuing from the nozzles (21) of the air blowing pipe (2), pressing the edEe zones of the packing material sheet (P) downwards and the blowing air iss-aing from the nozzles (4') of the air blowing bar (4) raising the packing material sheet (P) in the centre. From the free end of the packing material sheet (P)q the packing material portion (A) is then cut off by the cutting device (3), which portion is already gripped at this time by the grippers of the g-ripper wheel (5).
