Abstract
219,502. Hall, J. Aug. 1, 1923. Cylinder machines ; offset machines.-A tworevolution flat-bed printing-machine is constructed so as to be capable of printing by the direct or offset methods by arranging an offset blanket on the impression or offset cylinder A and arranging an impression cylinder D behind the cylinder A. When offset printing occurs, an impression from the bed B is made on the offset blanket on cylinder A in its lowered position, and when it is raised a sheet is fed to the gripers a and is carried around with the offset blanket until it reaches the cylinder D, when it. is transferred to grippers d<1> on the cylinder D from which the printed sheet is delivered by tapes E and a flier e, or by grippers on a chain which deposit it printed side up. The cylinder D is controlled by trip mechanism E<1>, F<11> which moves the cylinder D out of contact with cylinder A after the offset printing has taken place, or the cylinder O may be arranged so that the rising and falling motion of cylinder A also moves the cylinder A into and out of contact with cylinder O. In a modification a delivery cylinder may be arranged in front of the feed board, and in this case the sheet is not carried round the cylinder D but after contact with cylinder D passes under the feed table and is delivered by the auxiliary cylinder just after passing the feeding-in position.
