Abstract

A target for darts represents a snooker table. As shown, areas 4-10 of facing layer 3 are coloured according to their snooker ball counterparts. Layers 1, 2 and 3 are of plastic covered compressed wood, wood fibre and rubberised cork fibre respectively. Alternative "ball" layouts are disclosed (Figs. 3 and 4). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Snooker based darts game This invention relates to a snooker based darts game.
Darts is a common and popular game where players throw darts at a round board which is symmetrically sectioned. There are also darts games where the player throws a sucker type dart at a smooth surfaced board.
Dart games such as these are, however, commonplace and lack immagination and originality. Moreover they can be dangerous if a dart rebounds off the steel division wire.
According to the present invention the darts board is rectangular in shape similar to that of a snooker table and having the same "cush" shape and basic ball positions also. A safety feature of the board is that it has no divisional wiring.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective, the fully assembled board and general layout; Figure 2 illustrates how the board is built up of separate parts, and how the "target" areas are separated prior to assembly; Figure 3 shows another possible "ball" layout; Figure 4 shows yet another possible "ball" layout; and Figure 5 shows the general rules of the snooker based dart game.
Refering to the drawing the board comprises a plastic covered compressed wood 1 glued to a wood-fibre "PIN" board 2 glued to a rubberised cork fibre 3. At the back of the plastic covered compressed wood 1 there is a wall mounting attachment 11.
In order to give clarity of aim to the player each target area 4 to 10 is cut out prior to assembly, coloured similar to that of the colour of snooker balls, then reassembled. As well as all target areas being coloured the "cush" 3 is coloured green in accordance with that of a snooker table cush.
Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 show alternative layouts for the target area that allows for a greater spread of wear and tear throughout the target area.
In all target area layouts Fig. 1, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 the colours are in the same positions except the reds i.e.: YELLOW .. 4 GREEN , BROWN . 5 BLUE 7 PINK .... 8 BLACK 10 The value of points allocated to each colour are the same as the value given to them in the game of snooker.
The type of dart used to score in this invention is the same as the type used in a conventional dart game i.e. steel tipped.
The rules of play to be used in this game are similar to those used in the conventional game of snooker. The rules are as in Fig. 5 for all target layouts, Fig. 1, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 except that in Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 there is no triangle: rule 4 should read" Each player starts to score by throwing a dart at any red "BALL". If the dart lands in any red "BALL"...".
RULES of PLA Y TARGET SCORE: The winning target score shall be agreed on by both players before start of play.
RULE 1. Both players throw one dart at the "BLUE BALL". The player who strikes the board nearest the centre of the "BLUE BALL" (even if no dart actually strikes the "BLUE BALL" will start the game.
RULE 2. Each player is allowed a MINIMUM of THREE darts except in the case where a player is in the process of continuing a "BREAK".
RULE 3. There is no limit to the number of darts a player can use while building a "BREAK" providing the break is continuous from the first dart.
RULE 4. Each player starts to score by throwing a dart at the RED TRIANGLE. If the dart lands in the triangle the the player then nominates a colour to throw a dart at : if successful the process is repeated until the player fails to land in a nominated area.
RULE 5. The winner is the first player to reach the agreed score or above.
PENALTIES.
If a player fails to land in a nominated colour then a penalty to the value of that colour is awarded to the opposing player.
If a player lands in another colour not nominated then the value of that colour is awarded to the opposing player.
1. A snooker based darts game comprising an assembled board of three layers layed out as in Fig. 1 consisting consisting 1 (plastic covered compressed wood), 2 (wood fibre "PIN" board) and 3 (rubberised cork fibre).
2. A snooker based darts game as claimed in Claim 1 wherein target areas as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 are layed out.
