Abstract

A structural element 120 for use in building construction which can be employed in for eaves or verge detail of a building comprises according to a first aspect of the invention a strip 126 of moisture- impermeable, water-resistant material such as extruded polyvinylchloride. The element has a substantially planar spine which can be keyed on to a bed of mortar on the outer leaf of a cavity wall and a fire barrier support portion 128, 130 extending on the inside of the spine. The fire barrier support portion is adapted to provide a key for the mortar of a fire barrier. Further, the element has a ventilation flange upstanding from the spine with one or more vent holes through the ventilation flange. A structural element according to a second aspect this element however has a socket on the outside of the spine to receive the inner edge of a soffit, and not necessarily a ventilation flange with vent holes. <IMAGE>
