Abstract
The body warmth alerter is an electronics device which by sensing the air temperature near the chest and the back of the body can give both visual and audio alert very shortly after overthrowing of blankets by a child. A rechargeable battery B1 is used throughout the operation so that there is no danger of electric shock. The air temperature is sensed by two thermistors (TH1, TH2) which are attached to clothing of a body by clips (CL1, CL2, Fig. 2 not shown). A second pair of thermistors TH3, TH4 may also be provided. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Body warmth alerter
This invention relates to a body warmth alerter.
In winter, children are apt to overthrow their blankets or quilts during the course of their sleep without someone knowing it and as a result frequently catch cold. it would be impossible for the parents to keep alert all the time to cover them up again with the blankets. With this body warmth alerter, the parent will in a very short time, within one minute of the instant of overthrowing of the blanket, receive a buzzer alert and restore the blanket for the children.
Referring to Fig. 1, the front view and Fig.
2, the plan view, the body warmth alerter comprises a chassic C which houses the electronics, a power cord PC connected to a mains plug PL3, a detachable battery cord BC connected to a 12v. 1 2AH rechargeable battery B1 and two detachable sensor assemblies S1 & S2. Each of the S1 and S2 is composed of two thermistors TH1 and TH2 or TH3 and
TH4 respectively and each themistor is fixed to an insulated ciip CLi to CL4.
Fig. 3 shows the electronic circuit of all components except the clips.
During the daytime the 12v. rechargeable battery is allowed to be charged by having mains plug PL3 plugged into mains socket and power switch SW1 turned on for an average of twelve hours. At night when the child goes to sleep his pyjamas is fastened to one sensor assembly e.g. S1 both in the chest and at the back by the clips CLi and CL2. Power switch SW1 is then turned off and mains plug
PL3 pulled out from mains socket. Next the child is covered up with blanket. The alert comes on with green LED 1 lit and buzzer BZ energised until the sensors acquire the body temperature of the child which usually takes several minutes. In the meantime the audio alert can be disabled by using switch SW2 which has to be turned on again when the
LED 1 light goes out.
When the blanket is overthrown thus exposing either one or both thermistor to the cold air, it will within one minute turn on comparator ICIA in Fig. 3 and also the visual and audio alert when transistor 03 is conducting.
Average current drain from the battery is 70 mA.
The alerter will be disabled when both the sensor assemblies are detached.
1. A body warmth alerter comprising a chassis C which houses the electronic parts, a detachable battery, two detachable sensor assemblies and a power cable connected to a mains plug. The alerter is able to give audio and visual warning when the body warmth of a child drops during sleep in the case of overthrowing the blankets.
2. A body warmth alerter as claimed in
Claim 1 wherein the operating power source is the rechargeable battery which provides the essential pyschological safety feeling, giving no fear of electric shocks.
3. A body warmth alerter as claimed in
Claim 1 wherein each sensor assembly has two temperature sensing thermistor for the front and the back of the upper body of a child.
4. A body warmth alerter substantially as described herein with reference to Fig. 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
