Abstract
218,664. Ruppert, W., and Herok, J. July 4, 1923, [Convention date]. Presses, mechanical. - Relates to presses of the type comprising driving friction discs 7, 8 rockable about pivots 5, 6 to engage upper or lower driven discs 9 on the screw spindle, and consists in the provision of means to reduce gradually the pressure between the discs as the screw ascends. As shown, the discs 7, 8 are controlled through a link 4 by a hand-lever 1 pivoted at 2 and counterweighted at 3, a cranked lever 10 having a forked end engaging a pin 13 on the ram 12 moves the weight 3 towards the pivot 2 as the ram ascends. Modifications are described in which the upper end of the link 4 engages a slot in an intermediate lever and is moved towards the pivot of such lever as the ram ascends. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modification, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which a spring 12 encircles the link 4 and bears a collar 13 thereon and against an arm 11 on the ram 10. The link is connected to a lever 18 which controls the discs through a pressure-equalizing plate 14 and levers 19, 20. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
