Separate heater and evaporator apparatus; spray evaporators.-In separating mixed liquids by distillation, as for example, benzol from washing oils, the liquid is passed in succession through a heater and through an evaporator from which the vapours pass to a condenser. A tubular heating- chamber 1 containing a steam coil 3 receives liquid from an inlet 2, and discharges it on to a distributing plate 4 from which it falls in divided form to the base of the evaporator. Residual liquid flows through an outlet 7, and vapours pass to a condenser 6.
