Description

SPECIFICATION Window arrangements This invention relates to window arrangements where the window frame is provided with a guide rail which cooperateswith a slide memberwhich is connected to the window casement.
With the present invention the aim is a solution where the guide rail can be easily fastened in, but nevertheless in a secure manner, so that, for example, in the open position ofthewindow, it can transfer a portion of the weight ofthe window and other loading, via associated slide members, from the casement to the frame. More especially the aim is a solution where the use of screws and corresponding screw holes can be avoided.
According to the present invention a window arrangement comprises awindowframewith a guide rail and a window casement having a slide member connected thereto adapted to cooperate with said guide rail, said window frame being adapted to receive the guide rail in a freely displaceable manner between two mutually opposite main surfaces of a cavity within the opening of the window frame and to secure said guide rail by means of a readily releasable locking means, one main surface of said cavity forming a support surface for the guide rail and being provided with a lateral locking groove for receiving a locking member directed laterally out- wards from said guide rail, and the other main surface of said cavity forming a support surface for said locking means which can be self-lockingly pushed into a gap between said other main surface and an opposing surface on said guide rail.
it is possibieto producethe guide rail in a simple manner, forexample, in theform ofan extruded rail pmfile and, preferably, without furtherworking. Cor- respondingly, it is possible to produce the locking means in a simple manner, for example, in theform of an extruded profile of rubber or similar elastically yielding material. Furthermore, it is possible to achieve an especially simple mode of mounting, the guide rail and the locking means being able to be mounted in place, in turn and order, in the said cavity by simple operations. Firstly, the pushing in ofthe guide rail in the cavity is effected.Thereafter, the guide rail is secured in place in a locking engagement via the locking member and the associated locking groove in the cavity, followed by a pushing in ofthefastening means in the gap between the guide rail and the opposite other main surface of the cavity for locking ofthe guide rail and the locking means in a cooperating locking engagement with opposite sides ofthe cavity.
It is preferred that the guide rail is provided, in a manner knownperse, with an approximatelyJsnaped cross-section, with the longest leg of the J shapeformirlgasupportabutmentagainstthesaid one main surface and carrying the locking member directed laterally outwards, and with the smallest leg of the J shape forming the said opposite surface on the guide rail.
An especially favourable combination effect can be obtained when the cavity is formed in the rabbet ofthe windowframejust by the impact surface for the window casement, and the locking means is formed by a combined impact and sealing strip for the window casement, the locking means being adapted to be secured in clamping engagement between the cavity and the guide rail.
In order that the invention can be more clearly un derstood, a preferred embodiment thereof will now be described, byway of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 7 is a vertical section of a turning window illustrated, in part, atupperand lower portions ofthe frame and casement and with the casement in the closed position.
Figure2 is a perspective view of the guide rail and its associated locking member, Figures is a perspective view of a slide member adapted to cooperate with the guide rail as shown in Figure 1, and Figure 4 is a perspective view of a corner mounting adapted to be fastened to one side edge of window casement and to form a pivot bearing for a pivot pin fastened to the slide member.
Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a turning windowoftheso-called "side hinged"typewhich is also adapted to be turned 1800 about a vertical axis at the vertical central axis of the window and which includes a window frame 10 with an associated window casement 11.
The window frame 10 is provided, above and below, with a window rabbet 12. The window casement 11 can be received in a support abutment between window casement and window frame via a combined impact and sealing member 13 which is fastened at a vertically extending impact surface 14.
Between the window rabbet 12 and the adjacent im pact surface 14, there is formed a cavity 15 which is adapted to freely displaceably receive a guide rail 16.
The guide rail 16formosa guidefora slide member 17 which is provided with a lateral pivot pin 18 projecting freely outwards. The pivot pin 18 is pivotably mounted in a pivot bearing-forming bore 19 in an associated corner mounting 20fastenedto upper and lower portions of the window casement 11.
By means of the connections between casement and frame via the upper and lower pivot pins 18, the windowcasementcan be swung around, in known manner, about a vertical axis. By means of the upper and lower slide members 17, the pivotal axis through the pivot pins 18 can, in addition, be displaced horizontallyto different positions in the opening of the window. By means of, for example, a set of upper pivot arms 21,22,23 with associated fastening mounting 24 and a set of corresponding lower pivot arms 21,22,23 with associated fastening mounting 24 and a set of corresponding lower pivot arms 21, 22,23 with associated fastening mounting 24, the movement of the window casement 11 in the opening ofthewindowframe 10 can be guided in a controlled manner. The fastening mounting 24 is adap- ted to be fastened in a local cavity 25 (shown in the drawing only at the lower portion of the window but, in practice, formed in a corresponding manner also at the upper portion ofthe window) in rabbet 12 of thewindowframe 10. The pivot arm 21 has the one end pivotably mounted atone end ofthefastening mounting 24, while the pivot arm 22 has the one end pivotably mounted atthe other end of the fastening mounting. The opposite ends of the pivot arms 21 and 22 are pivotably mounted on the third pivot arm 23 at its one end, that is to saythe one pivot arm is arranged just by the side ofthe other.Atthe outer end ofthethird pivot arm 23, there isfastened a pivot pin projecting laterally outwards which is pivotably mounted at the central axis of the casement 11. The pivot arms 21,22,23 are dimensioned in known manner so that the window casement can be turned about 1800 in the opening of the frame lOon rotating about an axis through associated pivot pins (not shown).
The window casement 11 is provided at its onevertical side edge with upper and lower corner mountings 20 (see Figures 1 and 4) of identical L-shaped design. The one, longest leg 28 of the Lshapeforms a support abutment against adjacent side surface 11 a of the window casement 11 and is provided with fastening holes 28a forfirmly screwing the mounting to the casement. The other, shortest leg 29 of the L shape projects endways outwards from said side surface 11 a ofthe casement in alignmentwith adjacent upper end surface 11 band lower end surface 11 c ofthe casement. In the leg 20, there is formed a bore 19 which forms a pivot bearingforthe pivot pin 18.
The cavity 25forthe set of pivot arms 21,22,23 and fastening mounting 24 is arranged (seelowermostin Figure 1) countersunk in the rabbet 12 and partially below the countersinking (cavity) 15 and the associated guide rail 16. On the local portion ofthe guide rail 16where this overlaps the cavity 25, the guide rail can be locally adapted (not shown) to the mounting 24 and associated pivot arms 21-23. One main surface 15a ofthe cavity 15 is flush with the correspond- ing main surface of the rabbet 12, while the opposite main surface 1 5b of the cavity is arranged a moderate distance inside the opening oftheframe just by impact surface 14 oif the frame. In the main surface 15a, there is formed a longitudinal locking groove 30.
In Figure 2, the guide rail 16 is illustrated in perspective. The guide rail is made of light metal in the form of an extruded profile with a substantiallyJ- shaped cross-section.
The one, longest leg ofthe J shape has a first main surface 16a which is adapted to form an abutment against the main surface 1 5a of the cavity 15. From the main surface 16a, there projects laterally out wards afastening member in the form of a long- itudinal rib 31. The rib 31 is adapted to be pushed with a relatively narrow fit laterally into place in the locking groove 30, by correspondingly displacing the rail, afterthe latter is inserted in a freely displaceable mannerinthecavity 15 (Figure 1).
The second, short leg ofthe J shape has a second main surface l6bwhich,togetherwiththesecond main surface 1 sob of the cavity 15, defines a gap 32 which is adapted to receive the one leg of the com binedimpactandsealing member 13 (Figure 1) which is L-shaped in cross-section.
Web portion 1 6e of the J shape, which extends at right angles between the said legs, is adapted to formasupportabutmentagainstinnerwall 115c of the cavity 1 Swhen the rib 31 is ready for insertion in the locking groove 30. From the said second leg, there projects inwards, towards the said first leg of the J shape, a stop-forming flap 16d which, together with the web portion 1 6e and the short leg of the J shape, defines a hollow space for reception of a fastening flap 17a on the slide member 17 (Figure 3). The fastening flap 17a (see lowermost in Figure 1) ofthe slide member 17 is mounted in place in the hollow space in the guide rail 16 before the latter is fastened in place in the cavity 15.
In the position which is illustrated in Figure 1,the guide rail is mounted in place in the cavity 15 bya simple displacement of the guide rail in the cavity 15.
Thereafter, the guide rail is locked in place in the position shown by a correspondingly simple pushing in of one leg 13a ofthe member 13 in the gap 32. The leg 13a is provided with a pair of hook-forming projections in orderto ensure engagement with the main surface 16b ofthe guide rail 16 and the main surface 15b of the cavity 15. The second leg 13b of the member 13 is adapted with the one side surface to form a support abutment against impact surface 14 of the frame. The leg 13b is provided with a sealing lip and a sealing rib in known manner in orderto ensure uniform sealing between frame and casement at the impact surface 14. The fastening means forthe guide rail 16 is thus combined with the combined impact and sealing member.By this, there is ensured fastening of said combined member 13, at the sametime as the guide rail 16 is locked in place in its appointed position in the cavity 15.
Afterthe guide rails 16 with associated slide members 17 are mounted in place in the frame 10, the casement can be threaded into place on associated pivot pins 18 of the slide members 1 7 which are shown with a conically tapered entering portion 18a. This can be effected by first hooking the lower corner mounting of the window casement, via the associated bore 19, into engagement with the pivot pin of the lower side member 17 and thereafterthreading the pivot pin ofthe upper slide member into place in the upper corner mounting of the window casement by obliquely positioning the window casement in the opening ofthe window frame. Finally the casement can be fastened in place in the frame via the pivot arms 21-23 and pivot pins (notshown).
