Abstract

Water or other liquid is added to the air-fuel mixture supplied to a petrol engine, the liquid being supplied from a container 3 via flexible tubes 6, 8 connected by a 'Y' or 'T' tube connector which is also connected by a flexible tube 7 to a vacuum control unit 2. A control valve 4 or a restrictor and optionally a filter is/are provided at the inlet to tube 6. A turbine may be installed between the carburettor 9 and an engine inlet manifold. A one-way valve or fluid diode may be provided in the tube 7. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Assembly kit for adding water to a petrol engine This invention relates to an assembly kit for adding water to the petrol/air mixture in a petrol engine.
The invention is applicable to any petrol engine having a carburettor and a vacuum control unit.
Most petrol engines have a carburettor and a vacuum control unit with a flexible tube connecting the two.
In essence the invention involves the substitution of the aforementioned tube with an assembly which consists of a 'Y' tube connector, a water container, 3 flexible tubes and a control valve.
The accompanying drawing illustrates schematically the invention.
With reference to the drawing: One tube (6) connects the Y' tube connector (5) to water within the water container (3).
One tube (7) connects the 'Y' tube connector (5) to the vacuum control unit (2).
One tube (8) connects the 'Y' tube connector (5) to the carburettor (9).
The control valve (4) is fitted to tube (6).
Additions to the assembly may include a non-return valve or fluid diode fitted to tube (7); a filter or filters fitted to the water inlet of the control valve (4); and a simple turbine fitted between the carburettor (9) and the inlet manifold.
1. Carburettor connection for vacuum control unit.
2. Vacuum control unit.
3. Water container.
4. Control valve.
5. 'Y' tube connector.
6. Tube connecting water to 'Y' tube connector.
7. Tube connecting vacuum control unit to 'Y' tube connector.
8. Tube connecting carburrettor to 'Y' tube connector.
9. Carburettor.
10. Distributor.
