Abstract

A racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, has stringing consisting of strings of different thickness. Strings crossing the central part of the strung area are thicker than the other strings and may be of gut, the other strings being synthetic.

Description

SPECIFICATION A racquet, in particular a tennis racquet The invention relates to a racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, and has particular reference to the stringing thereof.
The known stringing for tennis racquets, which consists of synthetic or gut strings, has the disadvantage that it becomes soft in the middle region of the racquet head, i.e. in the region of and around the so-called "sweet spot". This is attributable to the fact that the tension of the individual strings there declines considerably after even a short playing time.
The reduction in string tension allows displacement of the strings, whereby the playing behaviour of the racket is adversely effected.
Nor can a breaking of the strings be excluded if the loading exceeds the breaking elongation point of the material.
The invention has the object of providing stringing for a racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, by which the abovementioned disadvantages are alleviated.
This is achieved according to the invention by the stringing consisting of strings of different thickness. In accordance with an advantageous embodiment, the stringing in the outer region of the racquet head consists of thinner strings than in the inner region. Allowance is therefore made for the increased loading in the region of the sweet spot of the stringing by there using strings which are thicker than those used in the outer region.
Thicker strings can also be pretensioned higher.
Another advantage of this stringing consists in that, in the event of the strings in the region of the ball area wearing, only these strings have to be changed. The strings in the outer region of the stringing do not have to be changed at the same time since the stringing comprises two lengths of string of different thickness.
At the same time, the stringing can consist' of gut and/or synthetic strings, in a particularly advantageous embodiment the stringing consisting of gut strings in the inner region of the racquet head and of synthetic strings in the outer region. This makes it possible to adapt the stringing, with regard to its firmness, individually to the needs of the player.
An exemplary embodiment for a stringing of strings of different thickness for a tennis racquet is illustrated in the drawing. Here, 1 identifies the frame which is provided with the stringing 2. The somewhat thicker strings 4 are located here in the region 3 of and around the sweet spot; the somewhat thinner strings 5 are arranged in the outer region 6 of the stringing 2.

2. A racquet according to Claim 1, wherein the striniging consists of thinner strings in the outer region of the racquet head and of thicker strings in the inner region.
3. A racquet according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the stringing consists of gut and/or synthetic strings.
4. A racquet according to Claim 3, wherein the stringing consists of gut strings in the inner region of the racquet head and of synthetic strings in the outer region.
5. A racquet substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.

SPECIFICATION A racquet, in particular a tennis racquet The invention relates to a racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, and has particular reference to the stringing thereof. The known stringing for tennis racquets, which consists of synthetic or gut strings, has the disadvantage that it becomes soft in the middle region of the racquet head, i.e. in the region of and around the so-called "sweet spot". This is attributable to the fact that the tension of the individual strings there declines considerably after even a short playing time. The reduction in string tension allows displacement of the strings, whereby the playing behaviour of the racket is adversely effected. In accordance with an advantageous embodiment, the stringing in the outer region of the racquet head consists of thinner strings than in the inner region. Allowance is therefore made for the increased loading in the region of the sweet spot of the stringing by there using strings which are thicker than those used in the outer region. Thicker strings can also be pretensioned higher. Another advantage of this stringing consists in that, in the event of the strings in the region of the ball area wearing, only these strings have to be changed. The strings in the outer region of the stringing do not have to be changed at the same time since the stringing comprises two lengths of string of different thickness. At the same time, the stringing can consist' of gut and/or synthetic strings, in a particularly advantageous embodiment the stringing consisting of gut strings in the inner region of the racquet head and of synthetic strings in the outer region. This makes it possible to adapt the stringing, with regard to its firmness, individually to the needs of the player. An exemplary embodiment for a stringing of strings of different thickness for a tennis racquet is illustrated in the drawing. Here, 1 identifies the frame which is provided with the stringing 2. The somewhat thicker strings 4 are located here in the region 3 of and around the sweet spot; the somewhat thinner strings 5 are arranged in the outer region 6 of the stringing 2. CLAIMS
1. A string racquet, in particular a tennis racquet, characterised in that the stringing consists of strings of different thickness.
2. A racquet according to Claim 1, wherein the striniging consists of thinner strings in the outer region of the racquet head and of thicker strings in the inner region.
3. A racquet according to Claim 1 or 2, wherein the stringing consists of gut and/or synthetic strings.
4. A racquet according to Claim 3, wherein the stringing consists of gut strings in the inner region of the racquet head and of synthetic strings in the outer region.
5. A racquet substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
