Abstract

The invention relates to a plant pot having an outer side wall 10, a base 12 and at least one partition 14 integrally formed with the base 12 and the outer side wall 14. The partition 14 divides the pot into two separate containers 16, 18 arranged one within the other, each container having means for permitting water drainage. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Plant pot This invention relates to a plant pot.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a plant pot having an outersidewall, a base and at least one partition integrallyformed with the base and the outer side wall, the partition serving to divide the pot into two separate containers arranged one within the other, each container having means for permitting water drainage.
In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the partition istallerthan the outer side wall of the pot wherebyto permit a large plant to be planted within the partition and smaller plants to be planted surrounding the partition.
When large plants are on display, steps are sometimes taken to disguise the appearance of the large plant pot, such as by placing it in a large poreclain bowl or the pot may itself be ornamented. Both these solutions are fairly costly. By contrast, in the preferred embodiment of the invention, smaller plants can now be planted around the larger partition and can therefore hide the partition which defines the large containerforthe bigger plant. This makes for a more attractive and natural display.
Each of the separate containers preferably has a respective drainage hole formed in the base of the container but alternatively the base may be perforated in only one ofthe two containers and holes may be formed in the partition to permit lateral flow of water forthe purpose of drainage.
The flower pot may be circular or any other desired shape and though the partition is preferably centred within the outer side wall this is not an essential feature. Furthermore, where there aretwo or more partitions they may define find containers arranged side by side one other ratherthan one within the other, with both surrounded by the outer sidewall of the plant pot.
As the shape ofthe plant pot permits itto be covered bythe plants growing within it, it may be formed of relatively inexpensively materials such as earthen wareora plastics material.
The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure lisa perspective view of a plant pot in accordance with the invention, and Figure 2 is the section showing the plant pot of Figure 1 standing on a tray.
The plant pot in the drawings comprises an outer side wall 10 a base 12 and an inner partition 14. The inner partition divides the plant pot into two containers 16 and 18 having different draining apertures 17 and 19, respectively, formed in the base 12 ofthe container.
In Figure 2, the plant pot is shown standing on a tray 20 which catches water passing through the drainage holes 17 and 19.
The inner container 16 is relatively tall and may be used to supporttaller plants. The container 18 on the other hand has a smaller side wall and may contain smaller plants to surround the base of the tall plant and hide the partition 14from sight. Because the containers 16 and 18 are complete separate, the different feeding and watering requirements of the two types of plant may be met and they will not interfere with one other in any way.
As an alternative to the holes 19 formed in the base, it is possible to form holes in the partition wall 14so that one of the containers 16 and 18 may share the drainage hole in the base provided in the other of the two containers.
It is possible to form several partitions and they may be formed one inside the other or adjacent one another. The invention can in this way enable a complete display to be supported by a single flowerpot while only only a small proportion of the surface of the plant pot would be visible being otherwise covered bythe plants and foliage.
1. A plant pot having an outer side wall, a base and at least one partition integrally formed with the base and the outer side wall, the partition serving to divide the pot into two separate containers arranged one within the other, each container having means for permitting water drainage.
2. A plant pot as claimed in claim 1, wherein the partition is tallerthan the outer side wall of the pot.
3. A plant pot as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein each ofthe separate containers has at least one respective drainage hole formed in the base of the container.
4. A plant pot as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein the pot is made of earthenware or of a plastics material.
5. A plant pot substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
