Description
SPECIFICATION
Furniture-front covering system
This invention relates to exchangeable decorative fumiturefront covering.
Also, furniturefronts represent a large portion of the frontage inside many rooms, they do not readiiy lend themselffor decorative changes and with built-in furniture the personal choice is often very restricted.
With the system here described, numerous changeable decorative variations offull or partial decorative covering is made possible, withoutthe need for special skills, on mostfurniturefronts commonly in use, with no need for modification and without causing damage to the original finish; the system also provides for furniture specially designed for exchangeable covering.
With the main component,eg curtainmaterial, generally available in numerous designs combined with a wide range of optional accessories which can be used in various ways, the system offers decorative vesatil ity.
According to the present invention there is provided a system for releasably attaching to furniture-fronts a decorative covering oftextile or material of similar texture. The system is adaptable to most furniture commonly in use as well as furniture specially designed for exchangeable covering. By necessity, the means of releasable attachment is varied to suit the furniture-partto be covered, avoiding modification and damage to the original finish. Byway of being able to change the decorative covering, combined with the optional use of a range of individually releasable, changeable and exchangeable accessories, for example: foam for upholstery appearance,- releasable anchorpoints for releasably upholstery-buttons or other decorative objects, for example portraitframe or artificial flowers ect, different changeable styles and numerous changeable effects are made possible with the option to revert two undamaged original finish.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described byway of example offour basic styles together with a few examples of a range of optional accessories, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in section to a perspective, decorative covering attached to a fu rnitu re4ront which was not designed for exchangeable covering. It also shows one optional accessory: foam for upholstery effect.
(Forclarity: material-thickness 2 grossly out of scale.)
Figure 2 shows, in section, a releasable anchorpoint and a releasable upholstery-button with soft covering come decorative object eg imitation flower.
Figure 3 shows, in section to a perspective, decorative covering 2 attached to a fu rnitu re4ront 1 by way of projecting the fixing-area to the side or reversside by means of a thin ribbon 3. It also shows set-in a anchorpoint and releasable upholstery-button. (For clarity: materialthickness 2 and 3 grossly out of scale.)
Figure 4 shows, in section to a parted perspective, a furniturefront 11 and 12 and 13 which is specially designed for the exchangeable covering system with the optionforfull,- orpartial,-(panel) covering. It also showsfouraccessories: uphotstery-material 5, decorative covering 2, anchorpoint 6 and decorative object eg portrait-frame 10.
Refering to the drawing Fig 1, the decorative covering is composed of decorative material 2 (eg curtain-material),-foam 5 and adhesive-strip 4. The adhesive strip 4 is stuckto thefurniture-front 1 marking the edge to be decoratively covered then the sheet offoam 5 placed over it and this in turn covered with decorative material 2which isfolded underthe edges offoam 5 and adhered to the surface of strip 4 on two or more sides.
Where the finish of the furniture4ront 1 is not suitable foradhesive-strip, as assumed in Fig 3, thin material 3 is drawn over two or more edges of the part 1 and fixed on the reverseside, thus providing a suitable surface for attaching the decorative material 2. To set-in a anchorpoint 6, a hole is cut into the upholstery-material 5 and the actual point ofthe anchorpoint 6 pushed through the cover 2 and eg a releasable upholstery-button 7 or a other object eg portrait-frame 10 Fig 4 mounted to it.
The releasable upholstery-button 7 Fig 2 is being covered byway of placing covering-material 9 over the front of it and then glue the edge into the groove on the reverseside; similar method is used to hold other decorative objects.
Figure 4 represents a fu rniture4ront which is specially madefor exchangeable covering. Thecom- position of the covering remains the same, butthe edgesofthecoveringmaterial 2are held under grip-frame 13 on two or more sides forfull-front covering, butfor partial,- (panel) covering the coveringmaterial 2 is drawn overthe edges of the panel 12 which is removable set into the frame 11 from the reverseside to hold the decorative covering in place.
