Abstract

214,832. Grierson, A. R. April 30, 1923. Musical whistles. - In a whistle blown from the nostrils and comprising a D-shaped wind chamber 1 which receives air through an aperture 3, and an amplifying chamber 2 into which the air passes through a narrow passage 8, the back plate 4 is provided with a tongue 9 engaging the upper lip, and with shaped portions 12, 15 engaging the lower lip and chin, the bend 12 forming a pit or recess in which the air rushing from the passage 8 is set into rapid vibration. The whole instrument may be formed of three sheet-metal stampings, one constituting the front of the wind chamber 1, the back plate 4 and the bent nortions 12, 15, the other two being identical and each comprising a side plate 16 and a slightly-curved nostril plate 6 which directs the air to the aperture 3.
