Abstract

A press for extracting water from webs (3) wherein at least one of the two compression surfaces forming the press nip (6) is formed of a flexible, endless belt (1, 2) loaded by means of a supporting member (4, 5). Due to its bending stiffness the belt exerts pressure on a part (L) of the web longer than the supported part (I) of the belt. The supporting member is preferably a roll (4, 5).
