Abstract
214,233. Pavesi, U. April 12, 1923, [Convention date]. Slipping-preventing attachments to wheels; extension rims for use on soft ground.-Relates to wheels adapted for use on roads or on natural ground. In the forms shown in Figs. 1 to 4 an agricultural wheel a with projecting tread grips f is fitted with brackets b in which are journaled segments d, Figs. 1 and 2, or d<1>, Figs. 3 and 4. The segments are shod with rubber treads e and are adapted to be swung outwardly to form a road tyre, or inwardly to allow the rim a to bear on the ground. The segments are. locked in the operative (full-line) position by bolts and nuts p engaging forked lugs m in the rim a, and in the inoperative (dotted line) position by attachment to a bracket r on the wheel hub. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the wheel rim r is fitted with a continuous rubber tyre s for use on roads. For use on soft ground, a series of shoes with projecting ribs f are swung about pivots u to straddle the tyre s, as shown in full lines. Hooks p are arranged to lock the shoes in both operative and inoperative positions.
