Plates, dishes, and the like, washing.-Apparatus of the type having an outer container for the washing liquid within which is mounted a shower-wheel and a perforated inner container for the dishes &c. comprises a frame 1 carrying the outer cylindrical container 2 and having bearings for a horizontal shaft 6 and a vertical shaft 9. The shaft 6 carries a handle and a pinion 7, the shaft 9 passing through a tube 12 fixed to the bottom of the container 2 and carrying a pinion 8 meshing with the pinion 7. At its upper end the shaft 9 is attached to a sleeve 10 surrounding the tube 12 and carrying at its lower end the shower-wheel 11. The sleeve 10 passes through the bottom of the perforated inner cylindrical container 3 and the tube 12 extends above the maximum water level in order to prevent leakage. At its top the inner container has an outwardlyextending perforated portion by which it is fixed to the outer container, and the whole is closed by an internally convex lid 5. A frame for carrying the articles to be washed is arranged within the container 3 and comprises V-shaped plates 14 joined by wires 15 some of which are higher than the others and carry a plate 17 for knives &c. Some of the perforations in the container 3 are arranged on the lower sides of grooves 13 so as to give downwardly-directed jets when the washing liquid is forced up the annular space between the containers by the rotation of the shower-wheel. The perforations may also be provided with nozzles to give the jets any desired direction. For lubricating the bearings by oil supplied at the top of the shaft 9, this shaft is provided with a groove 18 and its bearing with a groove 19.
