Abstract

A fishing weight 11 has a ground bait reservoir 12 from which ground bait is released when submerged. The weight can be a hollow moulding with an access panel 13 and apertures connecting the interior to the exterior. The panel may be secured to the reservoir by rubber or plastic rings 14. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing weights This invention concerns fishing weights.
In coarse fishing the technique of ground baiting is used to attract fish to a swim. Usually, favourite recipes of hemp, maggots, paste and other fish-attracting substances are thrown into the water before and during fishing in the hope that fish will come on feed in the vicinity of a baited hook.
It is known to attach to the line a plastic container which contains ground bait. The idea is that the bait will be released over a period of time close to the hook. It is of course necessary to weight the line in the usual manner.
The present invention provides an improved method for ground baiting.
The invention comprises a fishing weight having a ground bait reservoir from which ground bait is released when submerged.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows, by way of example only, an exploded perspective view of one form of fishing weight embodying the invention.
The weight 11 comprises a generally bomb shaped lead (or other heavy material) moulding with a bait reservoir 12 closable by a cover 13 secured by rubber or plastic rings 14. The moulding has a moulded-in loop 1 5 for attachment to a line.
The reservoir is connected to the exterior of the moulding by a plurality of drilled or moulded-in apertures 1 6 permitting ground bait placed in the reservoir to be released gradually or suddenly, as desired and depending upon the nature of the ground bait used and the size of the apertures 16 into the water when the weight is submerged.
It will be appreciated that it is not intended to limit the invention to the above example only, many variations, such as might readily occur to one skilled in the art, being possible, without departing from the scope thereof.
Claims (Filed on 1/9/83) 1. A fishing weight having a ground bait reservoir from which ground bait is released when submerged.
2. A weight as claimed in claim 1, comprising a hollow moulding with a removable access panel and apertures connecting the interior to the exterior of the hollow moulding.
3. A weight as claimed in claim 2, comprising securing means for securing said access panel in place comprising at least one elastic mug.
4. A weight as claimed in claim 1, being generally bomb-shaped.
