Abstract
212,529. Maschinenfabrik Schweiter Akt.-Ges. March 10, 1923, [Convention date]. Reeling-machines; stop-motions - Relates to reeling-machines wherein the swift is mounted on an arm and the stop-motion is automatically operated after a predetermined number of revolutions of the swift or after a predetermined travel of a measuring screw. The swift is carried in an arm 2 which, upon completion of the winding and the stopping of the machine, is manually moved so as to disconnect the measuring-gear and to allow it to be automatically returned to its initial position. The measuring-gear is driven from a pin on the pinion 5<1>, which is mounted on a shaft 6 and drives the swift, by gearing 31 - - 35, and comprises a screw 37 which is screwed into a bracket 38 loosely pivoted on a shaft 20. A pin 42, Fig. 1, on the outside of a drum 39 on the screw engages an arm 21 of a lever loose on the shaft 20, when the screw has been traversed in accordance with the desired length of yarn, and so operates a spring- controlled lever 13, Fig. 4, which releases the tension lever 11 of the driving-band. As the lever 11 falls, a bowl 17, which is normally engaged by a catch on the arm 14 of the lever 13, presses the arm 14 so as to apply a brake 22 to the interior rim of the driving-pulley 8, and the lever 21 raises a spring-controlled rod 23 so as to cause a catch 27 to snap behind a catch-pin on the lever 11 and hold it in the inoperative position. When the arm 2 is swung forward to remove the skein a rod 55 turns the shaft 20 which, as it passes the dead point, is snapped over by a spring, and, by means of a cam 57, moves the bracket 38 so that the measuring-screw 37 is disconnected from its driving-gear 35, whereupon a weighted cord 44 wound around the drum 39 returns the screw to its initial position. When the arm 2 is returned the shaft 20 is moved in a contrary direction by the rod 55, and the spring snaps it back into its original position and a cam 58 operates the bracket 38 so that the screw is again engaged with its driving-gear. The lever 21 is brought into its initial position and the rod 23 lowered, whereupon the catch 27 is freed and the lever 11 released. To set the apparatus to wind the desired length, a stop 43 on the inner flange of the drum 39 engages, in the initial position of the measuring-screw, with a pin 46 adjustably mounted on a pointer 50. A scale 5 on the bracket 38 enables the measured length to be read, the measuring being from the desired number of metres to the zero point. The lengths indicated by the scale may be varied by varying the gearing of the screw. The threadguide of the machine is operated by chain-gearing 69, 70. A second swift, mounted on an arm on an extension of the pin 4 and connected to the arm 2, may be operated by a wheel similar to the wheel 5<1> on the opposite end of the shaft, one measuring device serving both swifts.
