Abstract
The body of the life vest is made by two layers of plastics, eg. nylon cloth, and is separated into many elongated spaces. Inside every space there is put a buoyant material, which is a sealed net bag, filled with many small spheres of waterproof plastics, eg. polystyrene foam pieces. The bouyancy of the life vest is increased and leaks out of the life vest from any cracks on the outer layer are prevented. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Life vest
This invention relates to a life vest which will enable a person to float on water.
So far as is known, the vast majority of today's life vests are filled with air, and the bodies of the life vest are made of rubber or other kinds of soft materials. This provides the life vest with the bouyancy but this kind of life vest always develops cracks and lets the air leaks out of the life vest. Therefore, the user's life becomes at risk. To avoid the above mentioned difficulty, the life vests with cork provide improved bouyancy, but the corks are always large in volume, and this makes people uncomfortable or inconvenient in action.
It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved life vest. In using this invention, although there are cracks on it, the buoyant materials will still support the body.
Therefore, the safety of the user's life will be assured.
The life vest of this invention can be easily bent, the bouyant materials inside the vest being small in volume. Therefore, it will not make a person uncomfortable or inconvenient in action.
The invention will be further described by way of example with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a life vest made in accordance with the present invention, and
Figure 2 shows the inner structure of the life vest.
Referring to the drawings, the life vest includes a body 1, which is made by two layers of plastics, eg. nylon cloth, separated into many long-shaped spaces such as 11, 12, 1 3. Inside each of the spaces is a net bag 2. The net bag 2 is made by nylon lines and the mesh of the net bag 2 is very small. The net bags 2, are filled with many small spherical polystyrene foam pieces such as 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26. In order to keep the small spherical polystyrene foam pieces 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 inside the net bag 2, the mouth of the net bag 2 is sealed. Then, a long pipe shaped net bag which is filled with small spherical plastics, eg. polystyrene foam pieces 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26 is inserted into every long-shaped space 11, 12, 13, in the body of the life vest. The body of the life vest is sealed to make sure that the nylon net bags 2 are held inside the long-shaped spaces 11, 12, 13, in the life vest.
The spaces are long-shaped, parallel to each other and approximately horizontal. The vest has a back part and two side parts, each part formed by a series of pockets, each pocket extending across the part.
The small spherical polystyrene foam pieces used in the present invention may be subjected to waterproof treatment. The specific gravity of the polystyrene is very small; therefore, it is very light in weight and with very large bouyancy. The life vest of the present invention is not only easy for carrying and storage but the buoyant materials also can prevent leakage out of the body of the life vest. Because there are spaces between the small spherical polystryrene foam pieces, the life vest can be easily bent. Therefore, it will not make the user uncomfortable or inconvenient in using the life vest.
1. A life vest, which includes a body part made by two layers of plastics cloth, formed into many separated spaces, inside which are bouyant materials in the form of numerous small spherical plastics foam pieces.
2. A life vest according to claim 1, wherein the small spherical polystyrene foam pieces are first filled into plastics, eg. nylon net bags, which are sealed and inserted into said spaces.
3. A life vest according to claim 1, wherein the ends of the spaces in the body of the life vest are sealed so that the nylon net bag with small spherical polystyrene foam pieces are held inside the spaces in the body of the life vest.
4. A life vest as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein said spaces are long-shaped, parallel to each other and approximately horizontal.
5. A life vest as claimed in claim 4, comprising a back part and two side parts, each part formed by a series of pockets, each pocket extending across the part.
6. A life vest as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the cloth is nylon and the pieces are polystyrene.
7. A life vest substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
