Abstract
211,940. Stubbs, G. E., Brown, E. S., and Warner, F. Nov. 28, 1922. Vacuum tubes.-A valve having one or more filaments, grids or anodes is provided integrally with a switch whereby any one or more of the electrodes may be connected in circuit. The movement of the switch may be angularly, axially or diagonally with respect to the valve. The valve shown has three filaments 13, the common junction of which is connected with a pin 19, and the other ends with metal rods 24 mounted axially in an insulating base 15 and provided with spring-pressed plungers 26. The pin 19 is connected with a tube 21 containing a spring- pressed plunger 22. The base is surrounded by a metal cap 27 having apertures through which the plungers pass freely. An insulating sleeve 28, rotatable about the cap, is recessed to receive a contact 29 engaging continuously with the plunger 22 and having a recessed extension 292 whereby contact may be made with any one of the plungers 26. The switch may be modified so as to connect the filaments in series, parallel, or series-parallel, or to effect any connection of the electrodes, and may be adapted for use with bayonet, screw, or clip holders. The sleeve may be fixed and the valve movable. The spring- plungers may be replaced by rigid pins and the contact strip 29 may be spring held towards the pins. In a modification, a flexible lead connected with the pin 19 has a plug which may be inserted into recesses in the rods 24. Specifications 149,238 and 190,777 are referred to. According to the first Provisional Specification, a switch in the form of a screw connector may be used.
