Abstract
A trolley having a base comprising a pair of horizontal longitudinally extending parallel members 10 each having a wheel located 11 adjacent each end thereof. A pair of vertically extending generally plate form members 12 attached one to the other by means 20 enabling such members to be locked in a spaced apart relationship and to be moved to lie immediately adjacent one to the other. Each of the longitudinally extending members is formed with a pair of apertures 13, 15 and each of the vertically extending members are formed with a plurality of pairs of corresponding apertures 17 at different heights, whereby pins 14, 16 can be located through the apertures in the longitudinally extending members and through any one of the pairs of apertures in the vertically extending members according to the required height of the trolley base. To collapse the trolley, pins 16 are removed, and the members 12 are moved together and pivoted about pin 13 to lie horizontally. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements in and relating to trolleys
The invention relates to trolleys and more particularly to trolleys which can be collapsed or folded for transportation and which are of adjustable height.
According to the invention there is provided a trolley having a base comprising a pair of horizontal logitudinally extending parallel members each having a wheel located adjacent each end thereof, a pair of vertically extending generally plate form members attached one to the other by means enabling such members to be locked in a spaced apart relationship and to be moved to lie immediately adjacent one to the other, each of the longitudinally extending members being formed with a pair of apertures and each of the vertically extending members being formed with a plurality of pairs of corresponding apertures at different heights, whereby pins can be located through the apertures in the longitudinally extending members and through any one of the pairs of apertures in the vertically extending members according to the required height of the trolley base.
Preferably one of the pair of apertures in each of the logitudinally extending members is located adjacent one end thereof and has a pin permanently located therein, e.g. by welding, whereby when the plate form members are located thereon immediately adjacent one to the other they may be rotated about such permanently located pins to lie horizontal and parallel to the longitudinally extending members for transportation.
Preferably the plate form members are attached one to the other by a pair of generally
T-shaped members which are pivotally connected together at a point along their legs, are pivotally connected at their bases to the respective bases of the plate form members and arms of which are slidable in channel members carried on the plate form members, the plate form members being formed with a plurality of apertures at different heights to enable pins to be located therethrough and engage with the tops of the T-shaped members for locking the plate form members different distances apart.
The foregoing and further features of the invention may be more readily understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective, part exploded, view of a folding trolley base, part assembled, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view, on reduced scale, of the trolley base of Fig. 1 in its folded configuration.
Referring now to the drawing there is shown a trolley base comprising two longitudinally extending members 10, having wheels 11 located adjacent the ends thereof, and a pair of vertical plate form members 12.
An aperture 1 3 is formed in each member 10 adjacent one end thereof and a pin 14 is permanently located therein, e.g. by welding. A further aperture 1 5 is formed in each of members
10, spaced from aperture 13, for accommodating a removable pin 1 6 therethrough. Members 12 each have pairs of apertures 1 7 formed therein which are spaced apart horizontally the same distance as apertures 13 and 1 5 and are at different heights. Hence pins 14 and 1 6 can be located through different pairs of apertures 1 7 to provide different heights for the trolley base.
The vertical edges of members 12 carry or are formed as channel section members 1 8. A rod 1 9 is pivotally connected between the channel section members 1 8 adjacent the bottom end for each member 12. A pair of T-shaped members 20 have the ends of their legs 20a attached one to each of the rods 19, are pivotally connected approximately mid-way along legs 20a and have their arms 20b located in the channel members 1 8 of the member 12 opposite the one carrying rod 19 to which they are attached. Apertures 21 are formed at different heights in members 1 2 so that pins (not shown) can be engaged therethrough above arms 20b to restrict upward movement of members 20 and so lock them with members 1 2 at different distances apart.
Box section members 22 are attached at the tops of members 12 to accommodate a platform, or other assembly to be transported, thereon.
When it is required to fold the trolley base for transportation or storage the pins are removed from apertures 21 and 15, 17, the members 12 are moved one towards the other and rotated about pins 14 to lie horizontally and parallel to members 10 as shown in Fig. 2.
Hence a trolley base is illustrated which can be folded into a small size and can be opened for use to provide different overall heights and widths.
The trolley base is particularly useful for being used when transporting equipment, such as photocopiers, to premises for demonstration since it can be used with vehicles having different height load beds.
1. A trolley having a base comprising a pair of horizontal logitudinally extending parallel members each having a wheel located adjacent each end thereof, a pair of vertically extending generally plate form members attached one to the other by means enabling such members to be locked in a spaced apart relationship and to be moved to lie immediately adjacent one to the other, each of the longitudinally extending members being formed with a pair of apertures and each of the vertically extending members being formed with a plurality of pairs of corresponding apertures at different heights, whereby pins can be located through the apertures in the longitudinally extending members and through any one of the pairs of apertures in the vertically extending members according to the
