Abstract
A paint can holding device comprises a removable handle 5 designed to be attached to the side of a paint can and grasped by the hand. At the top of the handle grip there is a spring clip '1' which is attached e.g. by means of a screw '3' or if of plastics is moulded as part of the handle, and which holds a paint brush '13' over the open paint can. In one embodiment the handle is attached by lugs 2 which hook over the rims of a paint can and are drawn tight by a nut and screw '3' and '4' or a spring, or merely by the resilience of the handle material. Alternatively the handle is attached to the paint can by a band or strap which is drawn tight by a bolt and nut, or by screw operated jaws or by a circular plastics base. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Paint can holding device
This invention related to a removable handle, designed to attach to a litre or half litre paint can and incorporating a device for holding a paint brush over the open paint can.
The paint can holding device comprises: a handle which features lugs to clip over the top and bottom rims of the paint can, operable means for drawing the lugs tight onto the rim are a vertical screw and nut arrangement as
Fig. 1, a spring fitted between the lugs as Fig.
3, or springy properties in the material as Fig.
2.
ALTERNATIVELY: The handle features a band or strap which fits round the outside of the paint can, the strap is drawn tight by a bolt and nut which passes through two lugs on the band as Fig. 4.
ALTERNATIVELY: The handle features a circular plastic base with springy lugs around its edges, the rim at the base of the paint can is pushed into the base and located and held firm by the lugs as Fig. 7.
ALTERNATIVELY: The handle incorporates a pair of jaws of which are drawn tight on to the open edge at the top of the paint can, or are drawn tight across the base of the paint can by means of a screw passing through both jaws, one of the jaws having a matching thread so when the screw is turned the jaws are progressively drawn towards each other as Fig. 5 586.
The device for holding a paint brush incorporated at the top of the handle is a spring clip, the paint brush is pushed into the clip and is held firmly as Fig. 8.
1. A paint can holding device for fixing to standard litre and half litre paint cans and when fitted is a handle for the paint can, incorporated is a means for holding a paint brush. The clamping apparatus comprises:
A handle and means operable to draw the gripping and locating means progressively more tightly to fix the handle securely to the paint can, and a spring clip incorporated at the top of the handle in which the handle of a paint brush is pushed in and the paint brush is held over the paint can.
2. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
Lips which hook over the opposite rims of the paint can, the lips being drawn tightly on to the rim by means of a screw and nut arrangement as illustrated in Fig. 1.
3. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
Lips which hook over the opposite rims of the paint can, the lips being drawn tightly on to the rim by means of springy properties in the material of the handle, which enable the handle to be forced over the rims as illustrated in Fig. 2.
4. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
Lips which hook over the opposite rims of the paint can, the lips being drawn tightly on to the rim by means of a spring arrangement fitted between the two lips of the handle, which enable the handle to be forced over the rims as illustrated in Fig. 3.
5. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
A band or strap which clamps around the paint can's circumference and is drawn tightly by means of a bolt and nut closing together two lugs on the band as illustrated in Fig. 4.
6. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
A male and female threaded component, when tightened, draw the jaws of the handle towards each other and cause the paint to be gripped horizontally by the handle as illustrated in Figs. 5 8 6.
7. A paint can holding device as claimed in Claim 1 in which the gripping and locating means comprise:
A plastic base with springy lugs around its edges, the rim at the base of the paint can is pushed into these lugs and the paint can is firmly held in the base, as illustrated in Fig. 7.
