Abstract

211,412. Webb, C. F. July 23, 1923. Jacks.-A series of grooves a<1> in the lifting pillar of a pneumatic jack are engaged by a spring-controlled pin E and so shaped that the pillar can rise but cannot descend until the pin is withdrawn. The pin E and the stem of the release valve D are connected to a cross bar c<1> to which is attached the handle C used for moving the jack into position. When the handle is pulled to withdraw the jack, the release valve is opened and the pin disengaged from the pillar. In a modification in which the handle is in threaded engagement with the cross bar and bears against the casing B, the handle is rotated to effect the release of the pillar.
