Abstract
Perpendicular to the drive shaft (9) which extends over the entire length of the machine, there are disposed supports (8) supporting on their opposite sides the support rolls for the pairs of friction sleeves (6, 7) disposed one after the other downstream of two successive drawing units (5). The supports (8) contain drives for continuous forward movement and alternating lateral movements of the sleeves (6, 7). These drives are controlled by two separate gears (10, 11) keyed on the drive shaft (9). The drawing units (5) disposed upstream of the friction units (6, 7) may also derive their movement from the main drive shaft (9) by a suitable separate transmission. The system is designed for use both with frictional finishers extended in the vertical plane and with frictional finishers extended in the horizontal plane. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Frictional finisher in which successive pairs of friction units are actuated by transmissions connected to a single drive shaft
The present invention relates to a frictional finisher in which successive pairs of friction units, each disposed downstream of a respective drawing unit, are actuated by transmissions connected to a single drive shaft.
In the case of frictional finishers of the known type extended in a vertical plane, and finishers extended in a horizontal plane, the control of friction units and drawing units is carried out by long shafts generally comprising segments connected together by means of joints which support driven rolls over which friction sleeves or cylinders controlled by the drawing units respectively pass. These shafts extend over the entire length of the machine and are caused to rotate, or subjected to alternating longitudinal movements by means of transmissions housed in the lateral heads of the machine.
This type of construction does not accord with the modern tendency of increasing the length of the machine as far as possible in order to enable it to include the greatest possible number of operating units or so-called operating "heads", each of which provides for the formation of one or two bobbins.
In addition, in the case in which it is necessary to replace the friction sleeves which are the components of the frictional finisher which are subject to the most wear or the cylinders of the drawing units subject to the action of the pressure cylinders, it is necessary to dismantle whole sections of the various shafts which extend over the entire length of the machine with a consequent time loss and the stoppage of the machine for comparatively long periods of time causing substantial production losses.
The present invention is designed to remedy these drawbacks, i.e. to eliminate the need for long shafts (which must have a high resistance to torsion) and the need for comparatively long operations requiring skilled operators for the replacement of the friction sleeves.
According to the present invention, there is provided a frictional finisher of the type in which, between opposite lateral heads, there are disposed a plurality of operating head each of which is designed for simultaneous drawing and friction of at least one rove and for the winding of the latter on a tube in the form of a bobbin, which is characterised in that at least the various friction units, each of which is disposed downstream of a respective drawing unit, are actuated by transmissions connected to a single longitudinal drive shaft rotated by a motor located at one of the lateral heads of the machine.
The invention will be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevation in diagrammatic form of a frictional finisher extended in the vertical plane, embodying the invention;
Figure 2 is a cross-section, on an enlarged scale, along the vertical plane containing the axis of the main drive shaft;
Figure 3 is a cross-section along the line Ill-Ill of Fig. 2;
Figure 4 is a cross-section along the line IV--IV of Fig. 3;
Figure 5 is a view in the direction of the arrow V shown in Fig. 2.
The machine shown in the drawings is a frictional finisher of the type extended in the vertical plane.
This machine comprises a frame designated overall by 1 and formed with two lateral heads 2 and 3 respectively which are mutually opposite, containing various main drive and control means of the machine itself.
The opposite lateral heads 2 and 3 of the machine have mounted between them a plurality of double operating heads disposed at regular intervals and designed for the processing of roves 4. Each of these working heads comprises a respective drawing unit 5 of known type and a friction unit constituted by two pairs of friction sleeves 6 and 7 respectively, spring mounted on opposite sides of a box-shaped support 8 fixed to the framework of the machine.
A main drive shaft 9 which extends over the entire length of the machine and which is actuated by motor means (not shown) contained in one of the lateral side panels is disposed below these box-shaped supports.
This shaft has keyed on it, at each support, a pair of gears 10 and 11 respectively, from the movement of which is derived forward movement of the pairs of sleeves 6 and 7 and alternating axial movements of each of the sleeves 6 and 7.
A toothed belt 12 which transmits movement, via the toothed pulley 13, to the shaft 1 4 which is rotatably mounted in a left-hand wall of the boxshaped support 8 (see Fig. 4) passes over the toothed gear or pulley 1 0. A gear 1 5, rigid with this shaft, transmits its movement, by means of gears 16, to gears 17 and 18 (see Figs. 4 and 5) keyed on shafts which support drive rolls of the sleeves of the upper pairs 6 and the lower pairs 7.
The toothed pulley 11 which comprises three sections of various diameter, transmits its movement, by means of a toothed belt 19, to a toothed pulley 20 (see Fig. 4) keyed on a shaft 21 supporting a cam 22. This cam 22 acts on opposing rolls 23 - supported by arms rigid with the support which bears the shafts supporting the drive rolls and the return rolls for the sleeves which have to perform axial displacements. By
displacing the pulley 11 axially along the drive shaft 9 it is possible to vary the transmission ratios
in such a way as to obtain a number of alternating friction movements which is different for each
rotation of the drive shaft 9.
The construction described above has the
advantage that it makes the pairs of sleeves 6 and
7 readily accessible. Consequently there is a
reduction in the time required for changing of the sleeves and in the duration of the stoppages of the machine leading to considerable reductions in operating costs.
These costs are aiso considerably reduced as a result of the fact that there are no long, heavy shafts subject to alternating axial movements.
It should be noted in the final instance that the above-described construction is suitable for use in the construction of machines having a number of operating heads which is greater than that possible with machines of known construction, as it is provided with a single transmission shaft which may be of a considerable diameter so as to have a high resistance to bending stresses and minimal angular deformations due to stresses of this type.
As shown above, the construction is also suitable for use in frictional finishers extended in the horizontal plane and may be further modified by deriving the control of the drawing units above the pairs of friction units spring mounted on opposite sides of the same box-shaped supports containing the transmission elements which control the forward movement, and the alternating axial displacements of the respective sleeves, directly from the main drive shaft 9 by means of an additional transmission disposed in parallel with respect to the transmission controlling the friction sleeves.
Claims (3)
1. A frictional finisher of a type in which, between opposite lateral heads, there are disposed a plurality of operating heads each of which is designed for simultaneous drawing and friction of at least one rove and for winding of the rove on a tube in the form of a bobbin, characterised in that a plurality of friction units, each of which is disposed downstream of a respective drawing unit, are actuated by transmissions connected to a single longitudinal drive shaft rotated by a motor located at one of the said lateral heads of the machine.

A frictional finisher as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the friction units disposed downstream of two successive drawing units are spring-mounted on opposite sides of a box-shaped support fixed to the framework of the machine and containing the transmission which controls the forward movement of the respective sleeves and the axial movements of at least some thereof.

A frictional finisher as claimed in Claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the movement of the drawing units located upstream of the friction units controlled by the transmission contained in the same box-shaped support is derived from the main shaft by means of a transmission which is separate from the previously mentioned transmission.
