Abstract
At least one permanently installed annular conveyor installation (7) such as a bucket wheel is provided in the ship's hold (3) adjacent the engine room (2). The axis of rotation of the installation (7) or wheel extends parallel to the ship's longitudinal axis. A cargo belt (6) extends in the ship's hull (4) in the region of the hold (3). Cargo on the cargo belt (6) is fed to the annular conveyor installation (7) which has a plurality of skips arranged to raise the cargo upwardly and discharge it to discharge devices (12, 14) located near the top of the annular conveyor installation (7). <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
A cargo ship discharge apparatus
The present invention relates to a cargo ship self-discharging apparatus.
The increasing intricacy of international trade, particularly in bulk commodities such as grain or coal, between countries having different standards of technical development, makes it necessary for bulk cargo carriers, generally large-capacity ships, to be equipped to make at least the discharging process generally independent of any special equipment available on shore.
Shipborne discharging equipment is preferably of high capacity, but requires a small outlay and takes up the minimum possible amount of cargo space.
Apparatus for discharging bulk commodities from ships and barges by means of conveyor belts and a single bucket type elevator is described in
German Patent No. 427,198. In this apparatus two mutually counter-running groups of longitudinal belts are provided, between which a transverse belt feeds the material brought up by the longitudinal belts to the bucket type elevator.
Such an apparatus is only suitable for smaller types of ships, as in the very wide bulk cargo carriers now available, too many belts would need to be provided. Moreover, a bottleneck of conveyor capacity can occur at a bucket type elevator which is fed with cargo by all the belts. In addition, the elevator of this known apparatus is not shipborne.
A shipborne conveyor installation having a vertical conveyor transportable above the holds of a ship is described in German Patent No.
120821 3. The lower part of the conveyor is pivotable about a horizontal axis located above the hatch coaming. The cargo of the vertical conveyor is then transported off the ship by belts.
An installation of this type takes up a considerable amount of space on board, and again the bucket type elevator causes a bottleneck.
German Auslegeschrift No. 1781297 describes the use of an elevator wheel having a tangentially arranged feeder belt in the ship's longitudinal direction to which the cargo is fed from individual storage compartments.
In this apparatus, the elevator wheel is arranged vertically in the longitudinal direction of the ship and a large amount of space for the drive is required from the ship's width in the region of the elevator wheel. In addition, the elevator wheel can be fed only by the cargo of one belt such that its conveyor capacity is seriously limited.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a space-saving shipborne ship's selfdischarging apparatus.
According to the present invention there is provided a cargo ship discharge apparatus comprising at least one permanently installed annular conveyor installation provided at the engine-room end of the hold, the axis of rotation of the installation extending substantially parallel to the ship's longitudinal axis, conveyor belt installations provided in the ship's hull, and discharge devices arranged in the top region of the annular conveyor installation.
Embodiments of the invention have the advantage of being space-saving such that the cargo space is not wasted. Furthermore, apparatus of the invention can have a high transport capacity and can be used to transfer cargo directly into land transport vehicles or water transport vehicles, such as lighters. In the case of very wide ships, if a limited number of conveyor belts with underfloor outlets, but large transport capacity, are provided, then it is conceivable to use clearing vehicles for the discharging process. This has the advantage that by concentrating the discharge to only a few discharge apertures, the latter can also be closed when the ship is used for other purposes.
An apparatus of the invention can be made to be space-saving and high-capacity and may considerably increase the local capacity for landings of bulk goods, and render the transport means, the ship, useful in an extended field of application.
An embodiment of the present invention will hereinafter be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 illustrates a longitudinal section through a bulk goods carrier which is equipped with self-discharging apparatus of the invention,
Figure 2 shows a cross section taken along the line A-B of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 shows a section taken along the line C-D of Figure 1.
The bulk goods carrier 1 shown in the drawings is a ship, and in customary manner the engine room 2 is arranged at the stern of the ship. Belt installations 5 having a cargo belt 6 are provided in the ship's hull 4 in the region of the hold 3. An annular conveyor installation 7 having its axis of rotation parallel to the ship's longitudinal axis is arranged to receive the cargo from the cargo belt 6. The conveyor installation 7 is supported by a roller bearing 9 connected by flanges to the engine-room wall 8. The arrangement of the annular conveyor installation 7 at the engine-room end of the hole has the advantage that it is possible to provide a drive 10 for the conveyor installation 7 and the corresponding drive transmission 11 within the engine room 2. The conveyor installation 7 is arranged to raise the cargo upwardly and to discharge it onto an inclined chute 12.The chute 12 overlaps a conveyor installation 1 3 having a transport belt 14. It is advantageous to arrange the inclined chute 12 at right angles to the plane of the annular conveyor installation 7. The conveyor installation 1 3 is pivotable about a bearing point 1 5 and is adjustable vertically as indicated. The cantilevered length of the conveyor installation 1 3 can also be varied.
In the embodiment illustrated, the annular conveyor installation 7 has a central drive axis. It is alternatively possible to support the annular conveyor installation 7 at its circumference and to make the drive therefor engage the circumference.
A plurality of laterally staggered annular conveyor installations having parallel axes of rotation may be provided to increase the discharge capacity. In this case, each conveyor installation may be supplied with cargo by a respective belt installation. Thus, in addition to a cargo belt for feeding cargo directly into the charging region of the annular conveyor installation, one or more lateral belts extending in the longitudinal direction of the ship may be provided. These lateral belts may terminate at one end in the charging region of a respective annular conveyor installation, and/or additional transverse belts may be arranged at ends of these lateral belts such that the cargo of the lateral belts is discharged into the charging region of the annular conveyor installation.
As can be seen from Figure 2, the annular conveyor installation 7 has a plurality of skips 16 which are each open towards the axis of rotation and mutually aligned into an annular shape. Each skip 16 is filled in the charging region 1 7 and empties in the discharging region 1 8. In order to prevent the cargo from falling out of the skips 16, their apertures are masked outside the charging and discharging regions 1 7, 18 by an annular chute 19.
Figure 3 illustrates how the cargo belt 6, which is supported on transport rollers 20 is charged with cargo through an underfloor outlet 21. Figure 3 also shows the lower run of the cargo belt 6 which is also supported by rollers (not numbered).
Claims (18)
1. A cargo ship discharge apparatus comprising at least one permanently installed annular conveyor installation provided at the engine-room end of the hold, the axis of rotation of the installation extending substantially parallel to the ship's longitudinal axis. conveyor belt installations provided in the ship's hull, and discharge devices arranged in the top region of the annular conveyor installation.
2. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the annular conveyor installation has 3 plurality of skips which are open towards the axis of rotation of the installation and are mutually aligned into an annular shape.
3. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the openings of the skips are masked outside charging. discharging regions of the annular conveyor installation by means of an annular chute.
4. Apparatus as claimed in any preceding
Claim, wherein a central drive axis is provided for the annular conveyor installation.
5. Apparatus as claimed in any of Claims 1 to 3, wherein peripheral bearings and drives are provided for the annular conveyor installation.
6. Apparatus as claimed in any preceding
Claim, wherein a plurality of annular conveyor installations are provided.
7. Apparatus as claimed in any preceding Claim wherein at least one cargo belt, oriented in the ship's longitudinal direction, is arranged in an underfloor outlet and extends into a charging region of the annular conveyor installation.
8. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 7, wherein a plurality of cargo belts oriented in the ship's longitudinal direction are provided, and wherein connecting belts extend from ends of the cargo belts into the charging region of the annular conveyor installation.

Claim, wherein an inclined chute is provided at the discharging region of the annular conveyor installation and overlaps a shipborne conveyor installation cantilevered on the land side.
11. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 10, wherein the inclined chute is arranged with one end in the discharging region of the annular conveyor installation.

13. Apparatus as claimed in any of Claims 10 to 12, wherein the shipborne conveyor installation is pivotable about a bearing point.
14. Apparatus as claimed in any of Claims 10 to 13, wherein the shipborne conveyor installation is vertically adjustable.

Claim, wherein the annular conveyor installation is supported by a roller bearing connected by flanges to the engine-room wall.
17. Apparatus as claimed in Claim 16, wherein the drive of the annular conveyor installation and the drive transmission are arranged in the engine room.
18. A cargo ship discharge apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
