Abstract

210,526. Schidrowitz, P. Nov. 1, 1922. Addition to 193,451, [Class 70, India-rubber &c.]. Paper treated with special materials; pulp, adding special substances to.-Unwoven fibrous materials are treated with latex vulcanized as in the parent Specification or in Specification 208,235, [Class 70, India-rubber &c.], and vulcanized rubber is deposited on the fibre e.g. by the addition of a coagulant. The invention is specially applicable to the manufacture of paper, the vulcanized latex being added to the pulp, deposition effected, and the pulp worked up, or the formed sheet may be impregnated with the latex and the rubber subsequently deposited. According to an example to pulp containing 2“ per cent dry fibre is added 10 per cent of resin size (calculated on the dry fibre), and a quantity of vulcanized latex sufficient to yield 1 per cent of dry rubber calculated on the dry fibre; the size is precipitated and the rubber coagulated by the addition of alum, and the pulp is made into paper in the usual way. The addition of larger percentages of rubber gives stronger papers.
