Abstract
The present invention relates to a bicycle saddle-pin 1 which, made in one type only having a standardized diameter, can be applied to seat tubes of bicycle frames having different diameters, a cylindrical bush 3, preferably made of nylon, being provided which is suitable to connect each saddle-pin to the corresponding seat tube, said cylindrical bush having its inner diameter equal to the standardized diameter of the saddle- pin and its outer diameter equal to the inner diameter of the seat tube. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Bicycle saddle-pin
It is known that at present "special sports" bicycles and exactly "racing" bicycles are provided with saddle-pins which are comparatively adjustable, among the different types which can be found on the market. In fact, such bicycles have the frame seat tube where the saddle-pin is introduced, bored according to different diameters with respect to the type of material used. The more the metal of the seat tube is of inferior quality, the bigger is the thickness of the seat tube itself and therefore the smaller is the diameter of the inner hole. On the contrary, bicycles of greater worth (such as very special "racing" bicycles) have excellent-quality seat tubes, very light, strong and thin in thickness so that in these seat tubes the inner hole is larger, reaching a maximum diameter of 27,2 mm.In this case the corresponding saddle-pin must have the same diameter.
In fact, the measures of the diameters of the saddle-pins vary every 0,2 mm, ranging from a minimum of 25,8 mm to a maximum of 27,2 mm, in the very special "racing" bicycles.
Owing to these different sizes it is necessary to produce many saddle-pins having different diameters in order to fit up said special bicycles; of course this is a non-negligible drawback as a convenient number of saddle-pins having different diameters has always to be available by the manufacturers. Consequently manufacturers are always obliged to have a substantial stock, which is cumbersome and expensive.
A second feature, though of less importance, in the special production of "racing" bicycles is the continuous pursuit of the best airfoil sections for each component of the bicycle. From that point of view, the most important drawback is due to the fact that saddle-pins having a larger diameter and therefore being less aerodynamic are being used at present for these "racing" bicycles.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the above mentioned drawbacks and to accomplish a saddle-pin which is suitable to be applied to different types of seat tubes without giving rise to cumbersome and expensive stocks for the manufacturers and which can improve the aerodynamic features of special "racing" bicycles.
These and other objects are attained by the bicycle saddle-pin of the present invention which is characterized in that it is made in one type only having a standardized diameter, a cylindrical bush being provided which is suitable to connect said saddle-pin to the corresponding seat tube of the frame of said bicycles, said cylindrical bush having its inner diameter equal to said standardized diameter and its outer diameter varying according to the corresponding size of the seat tube.
Further features and advantages of the invention will become more evident from the detailed description of a preferred embodiment given hereinafter, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Fig. 1 is a side view of the saddle-pin;
- Figs. 2, 3 and 4 show a side view, a plan view and a cross-sectional view (along line lV-IV of Fig. 2) respectively of the cylindrical bush;
- Figs. 5, 6 and 7 show a side view, a front view and a sectional view (along line VIl-VIl of
Fig. 5) respectively of the saddle-pin introduced in the cylindrical bush.
With reference to the drawings, it has been indicated at 1 a metal cylindrical saddle-pin having a diameter of 22 mm, which is provided on its upper portion with an attachment 2, known in itself, for a bicycle saddle. A cylindrical bush, preferably made of nylon, has been indicated at 3, this bush being provided with a stop collar 4 and a longitudinally disposed rectilinear slit 5. The inner diameter of said cylindrical bush 3 is equal to the diameter of the saddle-pin 1 whilst its outer diameter varies every 0,2 mm from a minimum of 25,8 mm to a maximum of 27,2 mm. This enables the bush to be introduced into the corresponding hole of the seat tube of every bicycle frame as the seat tube diameter varies exactly between 25,8 mm and 27,2 mm, according to the material used.
Obviously the embodiment of the invention described above is not intended to comprise a limitation and modifications can be carried out within the scope of the claims.
