Desks.-A desk comprises two contiguous compartments, in one of which is slidably carried a chest of drawers 3 shorter than the depth of the desk so that the chest of drawers can be moved back into the desk to leave a space for the knees of the user. The other compartment is intended to contain a typewriter. The chest of drawers 3 is carried on rails 4 by rollers 5 and! the means for moving it consists of a crank lever 6, 7 mounted on a fixed pivot 9 and connected at one end by a link 10 to the chest of drawers 3. The free end of the lever passes through a horizontal slot 11 in the front of the desk and by moving this end from one side of the slot to the other, the chest of drawers is brought to the rear or front of the desk. The lever may be held at one side by an abutment 12 on the side of the slot.
