Abstract
207,780. Fortini, A. Dec. 4, 1922, [Convention date]. Addition to 196,578, [Class 103 (i), Brakes &c.]. Brakes, arrangement and disposition of, and braking.- Improvements on the invention described in the parent Specification and on that described in Specification 197,294 consist (1) in mounting the disc e which carries the pivot of the cam and of the brake blocks of the one brake, so that it is free to rotate for effecting the application of the other brake and in dispensing with the springs by which the parts are returned, according to the parent Specification, to the normal position; (2) in means. whereby the force applied to the pull rod o which operates the second brake is in the same direction irrespective of the direction in which the wheels and disc e are moving. In Fig. 4 this is effected by connecting the rod o to a lever 5 pivoted at 4 upon the fixed axle casing and by providing two lugs 6, 7 on the disc e one or other of which presses upon the respective arms of thelever 5 according to the direction in which the disc e tends to turn. In another arrangement a lever corresponding to the lever 5 is disposed parallel to the plane of the disc e ; (3) in the provision of a spring in the connections to the second brake so as to limit the force applied thereto. Fig. 8 shows a leaf spring 14 forming a yielding arm on a cross-shaft q-w of the arrangement described in the Specification 197,294 by which the connecting rod t-z connected to the one brake actuates the other.
