Abstract
207,513. Western Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Grange, J. D.). Nov. 24, 1922, [Convention date]. Stencils.-A stencil sheet, adapted to be formed into a stencil by impact with type or other means, is prepared from a fibrous base such as Yoshino or like paper impregnated with a composition comprising gelatine, acetic acid, and an aluminium salt. The impregnating medium preferably consists of a mixture of a solution of gelatine, sugar, glycerine, acetic acid, a colouring material and water to which is added a solution of an aluminium salt such as aluminium sulphate, ammonium alum, or potassium alum. Suitable proportions are given as an example, the proportion of salt being between 0.22 and 0.6 per cent of the total weight. The acetic acid is used to retard the hardening action of the salt. As colouring material an acid dye is preferably employed. The impregnated sheets are preferably dried in an enclosed heated chamber.
