Abstract

207,448. Rogers, F. H. March 7, 1923. Regulating.-In hydraulic turbines and pumps, the gates or guide vanes 7 are actuated by a rotatably mounted ring 12 and links 11 connected to levers 10 on the valve spindles, the arrangement being such that a steady movement and pressure of the ring 12 transmits a decreasing movement and an increasing force to the gates in the closing direction. The ring 12 is actuated by a piston rod 14, and may be located outside the ring of gates. The links 11 are formed as safety members which yield under excessive stress or strain arising, for example, from an obstruction in the gates. Fig. 3 shows such a link comprising two parts 25, 26 held against relative sliding by a split ring 27 adapted to be sheared under excessive compression or tension. Other forms of safety links may be used, including breakable pins and the like, and devices for preventing fouling of the released parts.
