Abstract
Spectacles comprising a frame (1) in which is mounted lenses, the surface of each lens carrying a design which is such that the lens is divided into zones each having a desired degree of opacity. The design may consist of a series of lines (2) which may be substantially straight or radially arranged with respect to the respective lens or circular or any combination thereof. The design may be in one or more colours which may be fluorescent. The design may be formed by paint, tape or adhesive plastics material and may be fused into the lenses. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Spectacles
This invention relates to spectacles.
The present invention seeks to provide spectacles to serve two purposes, one decorative and the other utilitarian, that is to say spectacles which, on the one hand have an attractive appearance of obvious aesthetic value, and which on the other hand are capable of protecting the eyes against dazzling by the rays of the sun etc.
and/or of correcting sight deficiency, for example, strabismus.
According to the present invention there is provided spectacles comprising a frame in which is mounted at least one lens, a surface of the or each lens carrying a design which is such that the lens is divided into zones each having a desired degree of opacity.
The design may consist of a series of lines.
Preferably the lines are substantially straight or radially arranged with respect to the lens or the respective iens, or circular or any combination thereof.
The design may be coloured by means of one or more colours. The colour or colours may be flourescent.
The design preferably is formed by means of paint, tape or adhesive plastics material.
The design may be fused into the lens or lenses.
The design may be provided on the frame.
The invention is illustrated, merely by way of exampie, in the accompanying drawing which shows one embodiment of spectacles according to the present invention.
The spectacles illustrated in the drawing consists of lenses mounted in a frame 1 of conventional shape. The surface of each lens carries a design consisting of a series of lines 2 of any geometrical shape, such as substantially straight, or radially arranged with respect to the respective lens or circular or a combination thereof. In fact there is no limitation either as to shape or as to the projection or direction of the design the purpose of which is to divide the respective lens into zones each having a desired degree of opacity. Thus zones 3 of sole visibility or greater visibility as desired may be created.
The design can be applied to each lens by painting, applying adhesive plastics material or tape with designs of various colours, printing, fusing or incrustration on the lenses, as may be appropriate. The design may be in one colour or any combination of colours. If desired the colour or colours may be fluorescent. The design may be applied to the frame, if this is desired or considered convenient.
The decorative aspect of the spectacles shown
in the drawing derives from the fact that the surface of the lenses and also of the frame, if desired, is provided with a series of designs of any geometrical shape, without any limitation as to colour or combination of colours, utilising suitable materials including flourescent materials, thus imparting great aesthetic attractiveness thereto.
With regard to the utilitarian aspect of the spectacles, this is due to the fact that it is possible to adjust the degree of opacity of the lens through the use of suitable decorative materials, forming a more of less protected zone of total vision. Partial vision zones and even points of concentration of vision, the remainder of the lenses remaining shaded, when this is considered convenient.
1. Spectacles comprising a frame in which is mounted at least one lens, a surface of the or each lens carrying a design which is such that the lens is divided into zones each having a desired degree of opacity.
2. Spectacles as claimed in claim 1 in which the design consists of a series of lines.
3. Spectacles as claimed in claim 2 in which the lines are substantially straight or radially arranged with respect to the lens or the respective lens, or circular or any combination thereof.
4. Spectacles as claimed in any preceding claim in which the design is coloured by means of one or more colours.
5. Spectacles as claimed in claim 4 in which the colour or colours are fluorescent.
6. Spectacles as claimed in any preceding claim in which the design is formed by means of paint, tape or adhesive plastics material.
7. Spectacles as claimed in any preceding claim in which the design is fused into the lens or lenses.
8. Spectacles as claimed in any preceding claim in which the design is provided on the frame.
9. Spectacles substantially as herein described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
10. Spectacles characterised in that the surface of the glasses which are mounted in a conventional frame have been provided with a series of designs composed of a succession of marks, such as radii, lines, circles, or of any other geometrical shape, disposed symmetrically or combined, in a colour or combination of colours, which optionally may be flourescent, and which are formed by the application of suitable materials, such as paint, tapes, or adherent plastics, fused or incrusted in the lenses, as may be appropriate, which designs determine the obtaining of the desired degree of opacity for one or more zones of vision, and also optionally the formation of points of concentration of vision.
