Ball-jointed hinges are secured to a member A that has an extension 3 adapted to engage a housing 4 in which is a mechanically or hydraulically operated catch 6 for securing the extension to the other hinged member B. The application of the device to a tipping wagon as described in Specification 192,389, [Class 108 (i), Road vehicles, Body details &c. of], is referred tc, A being a movable frame and B a fixed frame member. The ball 1 is mounted in a socket 2<1> for universal movement, and the movable catch 6 is operable by a cam spindle 8. With the parts in the assembled position, as shown, a pin 14 movable in the shank 3 is forced up by contact with a pin 15 to maintain a locking pin 10 out of engagement with a recess 13; the member A is thus free to rotate about the ball 1. To disconnect the member A, the catch 6 is released from the shank by the operation of the spindle 8 and the shank lifted out of the socket 4. As this operation occurs, the catch 10 is forced by the spring 12 into engagement with the recess 13 in the ball, which is thus maintained with the shank 3 in a position ready for the next engagement with support 4. The shaft 8 may be operated by the driver of the wagon. When the extension 3 is lifted out of the member 4 a pin is moved to lock the spindle 8 against movement.
