Abstract

204,491. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Aug. 30, 1922. Transformers.-A coil for an electromagnet or other inductive apparatus consists of wire wound between the flanges of a spool, the flanges being formed of one or more layers of fabric impregnated with a polymerized synthetic resin and bent over the outer surface of the coil. In the form shown, a limp spool is formed of a central fabric tube 1 and fabric flanges 2 made from centrally slit discs, as shown in Fig. 2, which are forced over the tube 1 so as to surround it at its ends by the triangular tongues 4. These parts are soaked in a liquid synthetic resin and are mounted on a metal former comprising a bolt 5 and cheeks with central supporting rings 7. Insulated wire 8 is then wound in, with or without the insertion of a ce.ntral insulating separator in the windings, and the outstanding parts of the fabric discs at 12 are bent over and united by a winding or tape 13 soaked with liquid synthetic resin. The complete coil is then heat-cured to polymerize the resin.
