Abstract

204,320. Maitre, A. H., and Martin, V. H. G. Sept. 21, 1922, [Convention. date]. Electrically-vibrated instruments.-An electromagnetic keyboard instrument, wherein pulsations of current produced by an interrupter for each note are transmitted to one or more telephones, megaphones or the like, has also pianoforte strings or the like vibrated by means of electromagnets to which current pulsations are transmitted by the same interrupters. On depressing a key A, B, or C, current passes through an interrupter F and contact E<1> to a common telephone or telephones H<2>. and through a contact E<2> also operated by the interrupter to the appropriate electromagnet L vibrating a pianoforte string M. The interrupters F are preferably tuning-forks vibrated by electromagnets K. Rheostats R<2>, R', respectively in parallel with the telephone and in series with the piano-string electromagnets, enable the relative strengths of the sounds produced in the telephone and by the strings to be varied. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also other forms from which the electromagnetically vibrated strings are absent. The interrupters may consist of rotary contact distributors or of tuning-forks vibrated mechanically. The keys may be grouped and connected to different groups of telephones. The interrupters may each be connected to two separate telephones, the connections passing through the key-contacts of two separate keyboards. In Fig. 5 (Cancelled), the keyboard R, B, C is directly connected to the telephone H<2> through the interrupters. Depression of a key of a second keyboard A<1> B', C', to which the keys A, B, C are coupled, produces a fork effect by sounding two telephones H<1>, H<2> together. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
